(KGTV) — A new ranking on the best destinations of the year placed a shining light on America's Finest City.San Diego, needless to say, will be garnering more fans this year. The city ranked sixth on the list for top U.S. destinations in 2019, according to travelers' reviews. San Diego ranked behind New York City, Maui and Oahu, Las Vegas, and Orlando as other top destinations.RELATED: San Diego ranked among top spots for dog ownersThe top destinations were awarded based on reviews, and ratings of hotels, restaurants, and experiences over a year.So where in San Diego should visitors go? TripAdvisor recommends veering off the beaten trail, where visitors may find more authentic experiences away from tourist hot spots."For those who want to cross these popular destinations off their travel bucket list, we recommend visiting during off-peak seasons when you can find great savings and less crowds," said Desiree Fish, vice president of global communications for TripAdvisor. 990

(KGTV) - Is Arby's really testing out a new meat-based vegetable called the "Marrot?"Yes.It's a fake carrot made from a turkey breast colored with dried carrot powder. If the "Marrot" gets a good public response, it might be offered to customers as a limited-time promotion.Arby's is intentionally bucking the current trend of fast food chains getting away from beef by offering meat substitutes such as the "Impossible Burger." 435

(KGTV) — A Fresno man died after not long after taking part in a taco-eating contest at a Minor League Baseball game Tuesday.Dana Hutchings, 41, died shortly after arriving at a hospital following the contest at a Fresno Grizzlies game Tuesday, according to Fresno County Sheriff's Office.ABC-affiliate KFSN reported Hutchings was taken from Chukchansi Park by an ambulance where he had just competed in a taco-eating contest before the game started. According to the Associated Press, a witness said Hutchings appeared to be eating much faster than the other two contestants, swallowing tacos without chewing them. The witness added that Hutchings collapsed about seven minutes into the contest and hit his face on the table as he fell to the ground, the AP said.A cause of death has not been released. Fresno sheriff's spokesman Tony Botti told reporters an autopsy will be performed Wednesday. Botti added that paramedics had to clear Hutchings' airway of food when he was transported, but it wasn't clear how many he had eaten.According to the AP, the Grizzlies has canceled the World Taco Eating Championship scheduled for Saturday at the annual Taco Truck Throwdown. Tuesday's contest, however, was not related to the championship event. 1250

(KGTV) — Every New Year's Eve, there's one thing humans look forward to and canines dread: Fireworks. And the threat to our four-legged friends is real, as thousands of dogs disappear from homes every year on holidays like New Year's Eve and the Fourth of July due to fireworks.Enter Ford's prototype noise-canceling dog kennel. The kennel uses the same technology found in vehicles and headphones in order to protect dogs' sensitive ears from fireworks that could cause them to panic. Here's how it works: Microphones inside the kennel detect the sound of a firework and then omit an opposing frequency to cancel out the noise or reduce it almost entirely. The walls of the kennel are designed using high-density cork in order to add another degree of silence. The result is a futuristic-looking kennel that keeps canines content amid the "booms" and "crackles" of fireworks:The prototype was inspired by some of the cabin technology Ford employs in its own vehicle designs.“We wondered how the technologies we use in our cars could be applied to help in other situations. Could dogs enjoy quieter New Year’s Eve celebrations through the application of our Active Noise Control system? We have a few more ideas in progress as to how our everyday lives might benefit from a little Ford know-how,” said Lyn West, brand content manager, Marketing Communications, Ford of Europe.RELATED: Latest in electric, exotic, everyday vehicles rolls into San Diego Auto ShowOf course, while the kennel is a mere prototype, that doesn't mean the idea can't be deployed on a larger scale. Soundproofing dogs crates have gained their own DIY following online and their are already products available online. This may, however, be the first time an automotive manufacturer has taken the technology we use on a daily basis and applied it on a smaller, more adorable scale. 1859

(KGTV) - A New York woman is being charged for poisoning a "look-alike" friend via cheesecake and stealing her identity documents.Viktoria Nasyrova, 42, of Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, was charged with attempted murder, burglary, and other charges for allegedly poisoning a Queens woman, who resembled Nasyrova, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown announced Wednesday.Investigators said Nasyrova gifted cheesecake laced with the Russian-made tranquilizer phenazepam to the victim on Aug. 28, 2016. The victim began eating the dessert before falling ill and passing out."This is a bizarre and twisted crime that could have resulted in the death of a Queens woman, whose only fault was that she shared similar features with the defendant," Brown said in a release. "Luckily, the Queens woman survived the poisoning."The victim and Nasyrova resemble one another, officials said: Both have dark hair, the same skin complexion, and speak Russian.According to investigators, the victim's last memory that day was of Nasyrova sitting beside her in her home. The victim was discovered the following day unconscious in her bed, wearing lingerie, with phenazepam pills scattered around her — as if she had attempted suicide, officials said. She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. When the victim returned home from the hospital, however, she realized her passport, employment authorization card, a gold ring, and cash were all missing. Investigators said those items were later recovered when Nasyrova was finally arrested on March 20, 2017.Nasyrova faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted. She is being held without bail and will appear in court on May 25.According to People Magazine, Nasyrova has also eluded Russian authorities and is charged in the 2014 death of 54-year-old Alla Aleksenko. People reported Nasyrova seduced the lead detective of that case to help her flee the country. 1961
