A Utah family says their father and his wife were killed by armed assailants while vacationing in Mexico with their 12-year-old son.Paul Nielsen, Janet Vasquez and their son were passing through the Mexican state of Guerrero while on vacation when they were attacked and robbed, according to a statement from Nielsen's family, which cited the boy's account of events. At some point, Nielsen and Vasquez were killed, and their son, who suffered minor injuries, was left with their bodies on the side of the road, the family statement said."Our family is absolutely devastated over the loss of our dad," Nielsen's family said in the statement, adding they received a call notifying them of his death on July 18. "We were very close to him. His family was his world, and he wasn't just our father, he was one of our best friends."An official for the US Department of State confirmed it was aware of reports of a US citizen's death in Guerrero and the department was closely monitoring the investigation by local authorities. The official declined to comment further out of respect for the family. The secretary of public safety for Guerrero referred CNN to the state attorney general's office. CNN's attempts to reach that office for comment this week have been unsuccessful.Investigators searching for killers, family saysVasquez and her son lived in Mexico, according to the statement from Nielsen's family. Vasquez was Nielsen's second wife, and they had a faith-based marriage. Since the marriage was not legally recognized, immigration was not an option, and Nielsen split his time between his wife and family in Utah and his second wife and family in Mexico, Nielsen's daughter Priscilla told CNN.The family said Nielsen's 12-year-old stepson was present for everything that occurred, is "very traumatized" and hasn't been able to give the complete story of what happened. "We still don't have all the details," the family's statement said. It's unclear whether Nielsen's family heard the account from the boy himself, or if it was shared with them by authorities.According to the details the boy has shared, Nielsen's family believes Paul, Vasquez and his step-son were on their way to Zihuatanejo, a tourist destination in Guerrero state on the Pacific Coast. While they were driving, three vehicles began chasing them, the statement said.Paul Nielsen accelerated and the people in the pursuing vehicles opened fire. Nielsen lost control of the vehicle and it crashed on the side of the road, the family said. The assailants pulled Nielsen, his wife and step-son from their vehicle and robbed them. At some point the family was placed in one of the assailants' vehicles. It's unclear when Nielsen and Vasquez were killed, but they were driven to another location and their bodies were left on the side of the road with the 12-year-old.Earlier news reports suggested the boy had also been shot, but Nielsen's family says that is inaccurate. The boy is now living with relatives."As for the investigation, we don't know very much about its status, but we've been told that both governments are working to find the killers," the family said."This has been the most difficult moment of our lives, and it's very important to us that we warn other people so that they don't have to go through the same thing," the family's statement added."The State Department has an active travel advisory for certain areas of Mexico, including the state our dad was planning on driving through. Though he was usually a careful person, he must not have seen that advisory, and that ignorance had tragic results that will affect all of us for the rest of our lives." 3657

A number of companies changed policies and say they plan to offer employees paid sick leave to those sickened or quarantined amid the novel coronavirus outbreak.According to the Washington Post, more than 30 million workers in the U.S. lack access to sick pay, giving them few options to pay bills should they be forced to take time off work if contracting the disease. But this week, companies like McDonald's, Uber and Walmart have announced that they have changed their sick-leave policies in order to prevent the spread of the disease and to support employees that become sick.On Monday, Vice President Mike Pence floated that the Trump administration may soon introduce a stimulus package that would include paid sick leave for some employees, but did not go into specifics. Here's how different companies plan on handling sick leave amid the COVID-19 outbreak.Darden RestaurantsThe parent company of LongHorn Steakhouse, Olive Garden and Yard House restaurants said it would begin offering employees a maximum of 40 hours of paid sick leave a year to all employees.Employees will earn one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours they work. Current employees will receive sick leave for the time they've worked in the past six months.According to 1260

American political leaders are grappling with a public health and economic maelstrom — as well as concerns for their own safety. President Donald Trump says his administration will ask Congress to pass payroll tax relief, as he looks to calm financial markets' fears over the impact of the new coronavirus epidemic. Trump told reporters Monday that the administration was seeking “very substantial relief."This, as fears about the coronavirus outbreak roil financial markets. The White House says it's conducting “business as usual,” playing down the political consequences of an epidemic that poses one of the greatest tests yet to Trump's administration. On Capitol Hill, at least five lawmakers are in self-quarantine as discussions continue on how to address the virus outbreak and economic volatility. Trump lashed out in tweets Monday, protesting the steep market drop and news that large public gatherings are being called off because of the virus. The current estimate of cases is around 650, with 26 coronavirus-related deaths. 1048

A Tulsa, Oklahoma, woman is urging brides to use more caution when selecting a wedding photographer than she did. "I was planning this since I was a little girl and it turned out just the way I wanted it and I have no pictures," Natalie Barney said. Barney was on a tight budget for her big day. "I just wanted a small wedding, but it had to be big enough for everyone to see my pink dress," Barney said. When she saw an advertisement for an "affordable" photographer on Facebook, she clicked on it. The bride-to-be messaged April Keller, owner of Queen Bee Photography - Stillwater, who she said quoted her 0 for 100 photos. "I saw her pictures on Facebook and they looked good," Barney said. It was a photo of a bride in her wedding dress surrounded by her bridesmaid in pink dresses that caught her eye. Queen Bee's post said "Wedding Samples" and showed several other stunning wedding photos. An online image search found the photos were on Pinterest and linked back to websites for designers, like Hayley Paige and Jenny Yoo. Barney did not know that at the time she booked. She said she met up with Keller before the wedding and provided her with a list of about 40 photos she wanted, including shots with her bridesmaids, close family, of her cake and so on. The two also agreed Keller was also going to be in charge of taking photos at a photo booth at the reception. August 1 was her big day. She said that was the day she started worrying. "She was trying to take pictures off of his flash," Barney said about Keller. "She was waiting for him to take a picture and whenever he would take a picture, she would take a picture."At the wedding, Barney said Keller admitted she was having camera issues and her flash did not work. Barney said she was worried about her photos from that moment on. "She messaged me [after the wedding] and asked if I could get the pictures my 10-year old niece took so she could edit those," Barney said. Barney was sent a handful of pictures through Facebook messenger but not near the 100 she paid for. "There are only three that are good pictures," the bride said. "They are pictures that I could have taken." In Facebook messages provided by Barney, Keller admits the pictures did not turn out well. It was heartbreaking news for the bride because she had family fly in from out of state for the occasion. As a consolation, Barney said Keller offered her a free family photo shoot with her children and grandchildren. On the day of the shoot, about 10 members of Barney's family went to the location they chose in coordinating outfits, but Keller did not show up. "I didn't think I could be more hurt than I was after my wedding and that happened and then I just gave up," Barney said. Keller said over the phone that her husband had health issues after Barney's wedding. She also said she is not operating Queen Bee Photography any more. A post on the business's Facebook page a day after a reporter spoke to Keller on the phone said, "I'm closing this company to open the chapter of my life if you get an invite from me please accept."We found a new photography business that her name and phone number are listed on called A-game Photography. "You get what you pay for," Barney said. "You get what you pay for. If you're going to try to save money on any part of your wedding, don't let it be the photographer." 3367
