SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Monday places of worship in San Diego had a unified message, telling believers not to fear. The Pittsburgh shooting at Tree of Life killed 11, and the pain was felt across the country. On Sunday at Beth Israel parents brought their children for religious classes and spoke about the massacre, "their utter dismay, sadness, shock at the horrible terror in Pittsburgh," Rabbi Michael Berk of Beth Israel said. He says Jews have faced persecution for hundreds of years, that's why their synagogue is housed inside a tall fence, with a guard shack out front and security cameras dotting the campus."This is a house of worship, but we have to have security here, all the time that we're here, and Jewish organizations have to do that and look at Israel what it has to do to keep secure," Berk said.In Liberty Station, Safety Director for Rock Church Mike Diggs says they've had dozens of threats over the past decade, from bombings to an active shooter, "threats of people burning the church down, threats of people filling many body bags.""We should not let any threat take our joy away or our ability to worship away," Diggs said. Many sanctuaries spoke with their congregations over the weekend on their security procedures in place and what heightened security they have currently."Leaders of the congregation especially, all the staff that works here, the religious school people, personnel and faculty, we are all given training from time to time," Berk said."Even though they may not be able to see that we're doing some things, some things they may notice, some things they may not, but us as an organization are taking potential threats seriously and taking steps and actions to be proactive," Diggs said there are personnel with firearms during service to protect the congregation.Rock Church has an annual Safety and Security Conference that anyone can attend. Their security team also goes to other churches to educate them on what they can do."When bad things have happened we have never presumed that God is done with us... We cling to hope, we clean ourselves up and dust ourselves off, and we put one foot in front of the other, and we keep on going... The Jewish toast throughout history is L'chaim, to life," Diggs said.Places of worship do not readily detail their security plan to ensure the safety of their congregation. 2410

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One of San Diego's most popular taco stops plans to expand across the county.City Tacos, which started in 2014 in North Park and added a La Mesa location in 2017, is preparing to open in four more locations around San Diego County. The shop is heading to Imperial Beach, Encinitas, Pacific Beach, and the Sorrento Valley area, according to City Tacos owner Gerald Torres."We've been expanding as rapidly as we can while being responsible," Torres said, noting when he used to open a store, he did so, "quietly and let people trickle in and take care of them."RELATED: List: San Diego's best Mexican restaurantsThe opening of the Imperial Beach location, however, will see a bit of a different welcoming. Free tacos will be given to the first 200 customers during its opening. In IB, the location will partner with local craft brewery Mike Hess to feature a 6,500-square-foot taco shop and beer garden just steps from the beach on Ocean Lane. Customers can expect many of the delicious taco creations found at other City Tacos locations, with the added benefit of pairing them with Mike Hess brews. To open, the IB stop will also offer tacos from local IB Street Tacos, including the carnitas, pollo asado and cameron enchilada tacos. Eventually, breakfast items will also be added, like chilaquiles and benedicts, and tostadas.RELATED: 10 must-eat restaurants on San Diego's Convoy StreetIn Encinitas, the location will feature a wrap-around patio spanning nearly 2,000-square-feet, giving diners plenty of room to eat and hang out.Torres says the Imperial Beach location will hold a grand opening after the property's gas is turned on, but mobile service is currently serving customers. Encinitas is set to open in two to three weeks, while the Pacific Beach location is about three months out.Sorrento Valley's stop is at least a year away, Torres added. 1882

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One driver was arrested after video of a road rage incident in Oceanside made its way into CHP's hands. Two drivers, one in a gray Ford Explorer and the other in a gray BMW convertible, were involved in the February 15 incident on eastbound State Route 78 in Oceanside, according to California Highway Patrol officers.Officers responded to a report of a non-injury, hit-and-run collision just before 4:30 p.m. near the College Blvd. exit. Officers arrived and found the Explorer on its side on the center median while the BMW reportedly fled.RELATED: Road Rage Crisis: Violence on the RiseWhile investigating, officers were made aware of a video recorded by a witness. The video showed the driver of the BMW, identified as 33-year-old Kevin McCall, left his vehicle to berate the driver of the Explorer, identified as 23-year-old Andrew Branch, who was still inside his vehicle, according to CHP.Officers said McCall spit at Branch before returning to his BMW. Branch is then seen driving into the center median and accelerating into the BMW, narrowly missing McCall.Sideswiping the BMW caused the Explorer to overturn onto its side. McCall then drove away, officers said."It was pretty shocking. It was pretty shocking," said CHP Officer Mark Latulippe. "This was an event that obviously they were embroiled in. it got way beyond what I assume either of them wanted to get to but it did." RELATED: Dad, kids nearly run off I-8 in road rage attackThe person who recorded the now-viral video was in disbelief:"First I was recording just because he was swerving into the left lane. But as you can see it did take a crazy turn. I cannot believe I witnessed such a crazy accident. Just because he was mad he wasn’t able to cut someone off. After the incident, the convertible man took off about 15-20 feet, then parked, and decided to walk back. I was so scared and nervous, I drove off as safely as I could." 1965

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than 0,000 has been donated in tip money to a Starbucks barista who went viral. A woman posted a picture of the San Diego barista on Facebook with the caption “Meet lenen from Starbucks who refused to serve me cause I’m not wearing a mask. Next time I will wait for cops and bring a medical exemption.”Related: GoFundMe started for San Diego barista after woman posts about not wearing mask at StarbucksMatt Cowan, who lives in Irvine, said he saw the post and knew he and some friends wanted to tip Lenin, so he started a GoFundMe.“Genuinely just I wanted to give Lenin a five, ten dollar tip,” said Cowan.About a week later and the tip donations on the GoFundMe have climbed to more than 0,000, a number the barista had not anticipated.“I was speechless like honestly I can’t really explain how I feel or how to vocalize it because this is not what I expected to happen at all,” said Lenin Gutierrez.People from around the world have donated, with messages of support pouring in for Lenin. Some have encouraged his love of dance, some have shared their own messages of bad customer service experiences and others are proud of him for keeping people safe by encouraging mask wearing."It’s touched something in everyone around the world and I think it just shows that there’s good people everywhere," said Cowan.Lenin said this money will give him the resource to accomplish many dreams. He’s been meeting with a financial planner and plans to use the money to pursue a degree in kinesiology, donate to charity and also follow his dream of dancing.“I can’t be grateful enough. I want to show everybody respect, like you believed in me and you want me to accomplish my dreams. Thank you so much and I will accomplish it because everyone showed me kindness so now I have to show it back,” said Lenin. The goal is to get the money to Lenin in the next week. 1891
