A civil lawsuit brought by the young man who has accused actor Kevin Spacey of sexual assault has been dropped, just over a week after it was filed, according to a new court filing.Spacey's accuser, who was an 18-year-old busboy at a Nantucket bar at the time of the alleged assault, filed the civil complaint on June 26. In it, the accuser said Spacey bought him "multiple alcoholic beverages" before he then forcibly touched and fondled his genitals -- the same allegations he made in an ongoing criminal case.The accuser's attorney, Mitchell Garabedian, told CNN via email Friday that he and his client voluntarily dropped the lawsuit and that he would have no further comment.Spacey, 59, faces criminal charges of indecent assault and battery in connection to the same alleged July 2016 incident. The former "House of Cards" star has pleaded not guilty.The civil lawsuit accused Spacey of explicit sexual behavior and infliction of mental distress. A judge has upheld the Virginia governor's ban on all types of weapons at a pro-gun rally planned for next week. Gov. Ralph Northam had announced the ban on Wednesday as he declared a state of emergency over threats of “armed militia groups storming our Capitol." The judge's order Thursday came hours after the FBI announced the arrest of three alleged white supremacists in Maryland. Virginia's solicitor general told Richmond Circuit Court Judge Joi that law enforcement identified "credible evidence" that armed out-of-state groups planned to come to Virginia with the possible intention of participating in a "violent insurrection." The emergency, which was declared by executive order, will span Friday, January 17 at 5:00 p.m. until Tuesday, January 21 at 5:00 p.m.“Law enforcement intelligence analysts have identified credible threats of violence surrounding the event, along with white nationalist rhetoric and plans by out-of-state militia groups to attend,” said a statement from Northam’s office.Northam tweeted that the order was to protect citizens and lawmakers.“We support citizens’ rights to peacefully protest and express their views to their elected officials. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is being flooded with a record number of people asking for help. The hotline, which operates 24 hours a day, took in more than 570,000 calls, texts and online chats last year, a jump of more than 30 percent from the year prior. The increase has put a strain on the organization.“When we see spikes like we did last year, we're just not prepared to respond to that kind of growth,” says National Domestic Violence Hotline CEO Katie Ray-Jones. Ray-Jones believes there are a couple reasons for the spike, including the #MeToo Movement, as well as high-profile domestic violence cases like the one involving R&B singer R. Kelly and former White House aide Rob Porter. “We know that people see threads of themselves in that story and it prompts them to either one, recognize ‘I don't want my current situation to turn out like that, so let me reach out for help’ or they're recognizing ‘Gosh, this is really serious and I need to connect to someone right now for help.’” Ray-Jones says the hotline is on track to set another record.
