ATLANTA — Georgia’s top elections official on Friday certified election results showing Joe Biden won the presidential election after a hand tally stemming from a mandatory audit affirmed the Democrat’s lead over Republican President Donald Trump.Friday morning, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger held a press conference to say his office would certify the results following the recount.“Working as an engineer throughout my life, I live by the motto that numbers don’t lie,” Raffensperger said at the state Capitol. “As secretary of state, I believe that the numbers that we have presented today are correct. The numbers reflect the verdict of the people, not a decision by the secretary of state’s office or of courts or of either campaign.”The Georgia hand recount results were 2,475,141 votes for president-elect Joe Biden and 2,462,857 votes for President Trump. Biden's lead is about .25 percent of the vote. Georgia's 16 electoral college votes will go to Biden, given him a projected 306 votes, well above the 270 needed to become president."In certifying the results, the Secretary of State affirmed that all 159 counties have provided to the state the total votes tabulated for each state and federal candidate. Further, the Secretary of State affirms that the statewide consolidated returns for state and federal offices are a true and correct tabulation of the certified returns by this office from each county," the statement from Raffensperger's office earlier in the day Friday reads. Now, Gov. Brian Kemp has until 5 p.m. Saturday to certify the state’s slate of presidential electors. The Trump campaign has until next Tuesday evening, November 24, to request another recount of the results, which would be a re-scan of the ballots that were hand-recounted.Raffensperger also said Friday morning he plans to propose election-law changes aimed at increasing trust in the results, by allowing state officials to intervene in counties that have systemic problems in administering elections, requiring photo ID for absentee voting and enabling more challenges to voters who might not live where they say.State lawmakers would have to make these changes in state law. 2189

AURORA, Colo. – Aurora Interim Chief of Police Vanessa Wilson has opened an internal affairs investigation in connection with the alleged behavior of several police officers at the site where Elijah McClain was approached and arrested by police last year.In a statement, Wilson said she learned Thursday "of allegations by an Aurora Police Officer alleging multiple Aurora Police officers were depicted in photographs near the site where Elijah McClain died."The cryptic late-night statement by Wilson does not go into details about what those photographs show, but they were serious enough to immediately order an internal affairs investigation. That investigation was completed Monday evening, Wilson said. The officers involved were all placed on paid administrative leave in non-enforcement capacities, according to a prepared statement. The investigation will be “publicly released in its entirety promptly upon its conclusion,” said Wilson, adding the investigation will include reports, photographic evidence, officer’s names, “and my final determination which can rise to the level of termination.”Monday’s announcement is the latest in a series of public relations disasters over the past year for the embattled police department.Earlier Monday, Wilson spoke to KMGH and other local news outlets after her officers pepper-sprayed protesters during a Saturday demonstration in which hundreds gathered to demand justice in the death of the 23-year-old, who died after the encounter with police in August of last year. Wilson made no mention of this internal affairs investigation Monday evening, despite pledging to show transparency and rebuild trust in the department when she took on the job at the beginning of the year.Wilson defended the actions of the officers, claiming agitators were throwing rocks at officers and were trying to breach fences protecting the Aurora Police Department headquarters.Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman has called for a special city council meeting Tuesday to hear from police about their response to Saturday's protests over the death of Elijah McClain. This story was originally published by óscar Contreras at KMGH. 2159

As screen time becomes a bigger part of students’ lives, preserving their vision is something to keep an eye on.Dr. Lauren Schneider, an ophthalmologist who has been treating patients in New York and Connecticut for six years warned screen time can cause a number of symptoms, including squinting and eye-crossing.“We do know that prolonged near work can place some children at risk for progressive myopia, which is worsening nearsightedness,” Dr. Schneider said.Doctors say tips on preserving your kids' vision during remote learning include making sure they keep a safe distance from their devices — at least 15 inches away from the screen is recommended — having them take screen breaks every 20 minutes and investing in a blue light blocker, which can be put on devices or glasses.“Some of our data suggests blue light emitted from our electronic devices may potentially be harmful long term to the center of the retina,” said Schneider Sunday. As school districts in the tri-state area continue to reopen this fall with full remote or hybrid learning models that include screen-based instruction, eye protection is another safety measure doctors say parents should have their sights on.“We want to make sure that while our students are hard at work which is going to require a lot of time in front of the computer that we’re avoiding unnecessary eye strain," Schneider said.According to medical experts, the full long term impacts on the eyes from remote learning are still being looked at, regular eye exams are highly recommended. For more tips and resources:www.visiontolearn.orgwww.childrenseyefoundation.orgwww.kidshealth.orgThis story was first reported by Jennifer Bisram at PIX11 in New York City, New York. 1726

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Lt. Gov Dan Patrick says he's offering up to million in defense of President Donald Trump’s unsupported claims of irregularities in the U.S. presidential election. The Republican said Tuesday he would pay out rewards for information that leads to voter fraud arrests and convictions. A former chief Texas ethics regulator suggested that paying reward money, which would come from Patrick’s political campaign, could run afoul of federal campaign finance laws. There's no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 election. 559
