SAN DIEGO (KGTV and CNS) - The first rain storms of the season moved into the region Tuesday, bringing significant rainfall throughout San Diego County along with the possibility of snow in the mountains. A low pressure system to the south will make its way north and meet a colder, low pressure system that is making its way down the coast, National Weather Service meteorologist Miguel Miller said. Snow levels will drop to 6,000 feet by Wednesday evening, with several inches of snow expected by late Thursday, Miller said. Temperatures are expected to remain about 5-10 degrees above average Tuesday before dropping to 15-20 degrees below average on Wednesday, he said. Dianne Rodriguez will be retiring in the next few years after decades of working in the hospitality industry. This year, she decided to build a retirement plan. She spent ,000, construction and permits included, for a pre-built granny flat.Work started in April. The landscaping and final touches were recently completed on a 375-square-foot, one bedroom, one bath tiny home, which she plans to rent out as vacation rental on Airbnb. "Living on a fixed income won't be easy. This will supplement our income and enable us to stay in San Diego, and do some traveling," said Rodriguez.She opened it up to her first tenant this week. The cost of the granny flat will add about 0 dollars to her monthly mortgage. She hopes to take in about ,000 a month from renting it out, which translates into an extra ,700.The company that built her tiny home is Instant Guest Homes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A car traveling at a high rate of speed crashed into a tree and power pole in the College Area late Sunday night, leaving nearly 2,000 residents without power.At around 11:45 p.m., San Diego police’s ABLE helicopter spotted and began following a car that was running several red lights and driving fast.As SDPD units were called to the car’s location, the vehicle lost control and slammed into a tree and then a power pole in the 4700 block of 54th Street.ABC 10News learned the transformer on the power pole was damaged, causing a power outage in the immediate area for a brief period.The driver got out of the wreckage and fled the scene, but officers tracked him down a short time later and took him into custody.Police learned the car involved had been reported stolen.No other details were released. 832

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A controversial Target store opened its doors Tuesday night in North Park, on University Avenue at the corner of Ray Street. Not everyone was on board when plans for the two-story Target were announced. North Park residents worried about the impact the retailer would have on local businesses and on parking in an already crowded neighborhood. There was also frustration when Target painted over a popular mural that had been on the side of the building for years. San Diego State University professor Dana Kuhn said economically, Target could have a positive impact on the community by creating jobs and boosting businesses nearby. Kuhn said people spending money at Target would inevitably mean they spend money in surrounding businesses. Kuhn also explained that Target will provided goods and services the community needs and that the money spent will stay in North Park. Target says the new store created 60 jobs and many of the employees do live nearby. Target is officially open as of Tuesday night but a grand opening for the community is scheduled for Sunday, March 17. 1106

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 20-year-old woman died following a shooting that left three others injured at a party in La Jolla Sunday morning, according to San Diego Police. Police were called to the 7500 block of Draper Avenue near Jack in the Box around 12:39 p.m. after reports of shots fired. According to police, partygoers were standing outside a home in the area when a light-colored sedan drove into the alley and shot the victims. When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old woman and 23-year-old man with gunshot wounds, according to police. Police say both victims were rushed to the hospital where the woman later died. The 23-year-old is in serious but stable condition, police say.Two other victims, both 19-years-old, later showed up at different hospitals with gunshot wounds and are in stable condition, police say. The suspects are still at large and police say they have no description at this time. The victims haven’t been identified.
