The surface is shiny but does not appear to be reflective.According to the post, the item was found in the "middle of nowhere."Officials won't announce the exact location of the object as "it is in a very remote area, and if individuals were to attempt to visit the area, there is a significant possibility they may become stranded and require rescue."It's not known who installed the metal monolith. OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A 6-year-old girl was struck in the head by what police say was a celebratory gunfire bullet during New Year's Eve parties in Northern California.The East Bay Times reports the child, who has not been identified, is in stable condition at a hospital Tuesday.Police say the girl was shot sometime before 2 a.m. during a family party in her East Oakland backyard.Investigators say the bullet was apparently fired into the air from another location nearby. Detectives are trying to track down the shooter.The newspaper says a family member drove the girl to a hospital. 597

Oliver North, the Fox News contributor and central figure in the Iran-Contra scandal, will be the National Rifle Association's new president, the group announced Monday."Oliver North is, hands down, the absolute best choice to lead our NRA Board, to fully engage with our members, and to unflinchingly stand and fight for the great freedoms he has defended his entire life," NRA executive vice president and CEO Wayne LaPierre said in a statement on the pick.In his statement, LaPierre compared North favorably to Charlton Heston, the Hollywood icon who was once president of the group.North will become president "within a few weeks," the group said, and is retiring from his position at Fox News, effective immediately.North will join the NRA at an increasingly contentious juncture for the group, facing off against a renewed push for gun control in the wake of the February school shooting in Parkland, Florida. OCEANSIDE (KGTV) - A big problem the homeless population faces is finding a safe place to bathe, that's why businesses are teaming up to help. Jordan Verdin has spent the last decade working with the homeless population in the North County. As a photographer, he’s always taking pictures and sharing their stories on social media. Part of Verdin’s love of taking pictures of the homeless is allowing them the opportunity of, “being seen and being heard but sometimes they might not want to be seen because of how they look so what we want to do I provide something that will eliminate that barrier”. He tells 10News, “One of the consistent needs shared with me is needing a place to shower”. After hearing that need repeated time and time again, he’s decided to work another project. Verdin mentioned the project to Oceanside business owner Jeanette Linnborn. Linnborn is the owner of coffee shop, Stay Golden. When Verdin brought the idea to Linnborn she jumped on board immediately. She tells 10News, “I was so excited about that I was like okay we can totally do this”. The shower trailer is made up of two sides, each equipped with a bathroom and shower. Verdin tells me 125 people will be able to shower daily. The shower trailer will stand as a liaison to help homeless back on their feet, “something as simple as a shower and a haircut just makes them feel human again” Verdin tells 10News. The cost of the shower trailer is ,000 and they have just reached the halfway point. There’s still a GoFundMe page set up to help them get the other half of funding. 1575

A number of holiday office parities in 2020 will be non-existent, but experts say employers can still do a lot to show employees they appreciate them this holiday season."What I’ve heard recently is obviously, are employers are having to come up with different types of gatherings, not even gatherings but ways to celebrate. And what makes me feel good is there’s still desire to do that, it’s just how to do it," said Lisa Frydenlund, an HR Knowledge Adviser with the Society for Human Resources Management. She says some businesses will be holding virtual celebrations."I even saw just recently something about getting a musician or some sort of that to be prerecorded and then sent out to people. So, it's a little mini concert. I think employers are getting very creative," said Frydenlund.Valerie Keels works at the company Gavi, which has offices in Switzerland and Washington, D.C. Keels is working with a team of five other people to put on a virtual end-of-the-year office event. Complete with a virtual cartoonist, personal videos and more for their 350 employees."I think it serves a purpose. It's a reminder to those people who are more solitary, and okay being that way, that yeah, we’re all in this together and we can still be collegial and still have fun together," said Keels.The biggest focus for Keels and her team is making sure their employees come together to celebrate all of their hard work."It's so important that organizations either foster or maintain that connectedness because it's so important for the motivation and even well-being of staff to be connected to both the organization and the colleagues," said Keels.For some companies in lieu of holiday party, extra vacation days will be offered, as a way to show employees their appreciation during this unprecedented year."Time away is definitely something that's an added benefit that people can provide. You don't have to have a celebration or try to mimic what we had before, but why not give the gift of time," said Frydenlund.Frydenlund says while some companies will still be hosting holiday parties as usual, she says many will likely consider the pandemic and proceed with caution."When you start to think about what is the intention around celebrating around the holidays and I’ve always wanted to make sure you’re inclusive in doing so because everybody celebrates things differently. And just like this entire year, it's giving employers more time and awareness to think about well how do we do that," said Frydenlund.Coming together or giving back to so many who've worked especially hard and gone through so much in today's new normal. 2812
