KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Virginia Merritt always wanted to be a mom. “We were like, okay, we’re going to be married for a year, enjoy being newlyweds and then right at a year stopping birth control,” she said, looking at her husband, Dustin Merritt, with a glint in her eye.Virginia and Dusty started “trying” right around their one-year anniversary, exactly as they’d planned. Except, things didn’t go as planned.“Those first few months we knew it was early. Probably the three-month mark is when we were like...hmm, what’s going on,” she said.It seemed like all their friends were having babies. Several members of their family were having babies. They were happy for those announcing births and celebrating babies, but that happiness was muted. They found themselves staying home more. They were sad. They wanted so badly to be parents. 845

KFC is running out of ... chicken? The fast food chain has been forced to temporarily close hundreds of restaurants in the United Kingdom after a logistics snafu stopped chicken deliveries.About 800 of the company's roughly 900 locations in Britain were closed as of midday on Monday. Some had opened for business by the afternoon, according to the company's website.KFC, which is owned by Taco Bell and Pizza Hut parent Yum!, said the chicken shortage had been caused by a "couple of teething problems" with its new delivery partner, DHL."We won't compromise on quality, so no deliveries has meant some of our restaurants are closed, and others are operating a limited menu, or shortened hours," KFC said in a statement.DHL acknowledged that a number of its deliveries had been "incomplete or delayed" because of "operational issues." The logistics company said it was working with KFC to solve the problem.KFC switched suppliers from Bidvest Logistics to DHL last Wednesday. Bidvest said that from its perspective, the transition had been "seamless."Franchisees operate 95% of KFC's outlets in the U.K. The company said in a statement that it would pay its staff as normal, and it was encouraging franchisees to do the same.KFC said it is too early to say how long it would take to restore normal service.Related: KFC promises to ditch antibiotic-laden chickenBritain is KFC's largest market in Europe, and one of its top five globally.KFC fans were not happy -- and many used social media to complain and express amusement over a chicken restaurant running out of its signature product.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. LA JOLLA -- The iconic Scripps Pier stretches more than 1,000 feet over the ocean at La Jolla Shores. It also serves as a starting point for a new mosaic that maps the wildlife in and around the 1,900-foot deep canyons under the water. Over the last year, four artists have laid down upwards of 500,000 pieces of glass and porcelain. They created a 2,400 square-foot mosaic that shows everything from fish to stingrays to whales."When someone sees something and loves it, they want to know more about it, and they also want to protect it," said Wick Alexander, one of the artists. On Tuesday, the artists held an open house to view the mosaic. It's now tucked away inside a building in the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. In a few months, crews plan to install it at Kellogg Park at the Shores, a spot a smaller mosaic once occupied. That mosaic, installed in 2008, began crack and was removed. Alexander says the new one will be able to last a lot longer. Renowned oceanographer Walter Munk, one of the project's main backers, said he hopes the mosaic makes a lasting impression. "People who don't dive and who don't really realize can get a chance to see what's going on," he said. Munk and his wife Mary donated more than 0,000 to the project. They hope to raise another 0,000 through the Walter Munk Foundation to pay for the rest of the piece and the installation, which could happen in the next few months. 1431
