is reporting. Zimmerman's suit claims he was defamed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Mayor Pete Buttigieg two weeks ago on the anniversary of Martin's death. The suit is seeking 5 million in damages. NBC reported the suit claims that Warren and Buttigieg "defamed Zimmerman for political gain in misguided and malicious attempts to bolster their standings amongst African-American voters, all at Zimmerman’s expense.”Warren retweeted photos of Martin, and added, "My heart goes out to @SybrinaFulton and Trayvon's family and friends. He should still be with us today. We need to end gun violence and racism. And we need to build a world where all of our children—especially young Black boys—can grow up safe and free."Buttigieg's Feb. 5 tweet said "Trayvon Martin would have been 25 today. How many 25th birthdays have been stolen from us by white supremacy, gun violence, prejudice, and fear? 895

as part of the proposed tentative agreement reached with the United Automobile Workers union (UAW). The plant will close if the UAW-Ford Council and rank-and-file members approve the contract. The news comes one day after the union and automaker reached a proposed tentative agreement, which still has to be voted on by the national council to become an official tentative agreement and then ratified by 55,000 Ford-UAW workers.According to sources, the 600 employees who work at the engine plant will be offered jobs at the Ford Van Dyke Transmission Plant, which is located about 14 miles away. Workers can also take buyout packages and retire.Sources say no other plants will close under the proposed contract. The union began negotiations on Monday with Ford for a new contract. There has been no work stoppage with Ford employees, a stark contrast to the 40-day work stoppage General Motors employees wagered last month.Plant closings were a major issue between GM and the UAW after the company announced it would close four plants this year. Those plants included Warren (Michigan) Transmission, Lordstown, Ohio Assembly and Detroit Hamtramck Assembly. Detroit Hamtramck will remain open, building all-electric trucks and vans. Hundreds of workers in Lordstown had to move to seven other states to continue working for GM. Workers in Warren have transferred to Flint and other plants in distant cities. The Ford UAW Council will travel to Detroit from 18 states and will vote whether to send the Tentative Agreement to the rank and file tomorrow. Then, 55,000 Ford workers will have about a week to vote yes or no through their local unions in those 18 states. This story was originally published by Jim Kiertzner on 1722

is known for preaching forgiveness, one particular incident drew a rare moment of ire from him on Tuesday. At least one of the state's 39 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 Tuesday has been attributed to a "coronavirus party," Beshear said Tuesday. The governor said that a person who would later test positive had exposed themselves to the virus when they attended the gathering with a group of people between the ages of 20 and 30."This is one that makes me mad, and it should make you mad. Ultimately, the power of forgiveness, we should forgive that person, but no more of these statewide," Beshear said.Beshear has already ordered that "non-essential businesses" in the state should close for the time being. He's also reminded Kentuckians that all small gatherings should be avoided in order to prevent the spread of the virus. This story was originally published by Melissa Ratliff on 889

Without major changes in almost every state, a national police misconduct database like what the White House and Congress have proposed after George Floyd’s death would fail to account for thousands of problem officers. The outlook for a policing bill is newly uncertain after Senate Democrats on Wednesday blocked a Republican proposal from moving forward. The House approved a far-reaching police overhaul from Democrats on Thursday, but it has almost zero chance of becoming law. Any eventual registry that emerges would depend on states reporting into it. But states and police departments track misconduct very differently. And some states currently don’t track it at all. 685
