SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County is no longer abnormally dry, according to a new report from the U.S. Drought Monitor. The report shows a large swath of Southern California having no drought. Most of California, however, remains abnormally dry, according to the report. According to the National Weather Service, the San Diego International Airport measured nearly four inches of rain since October 1st. On April 7, 1933, the Cullen-Harrison Act, signed by President Franklin Roosevelt, went into effect. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police and National City firefighters used “scare tactics” this Halloween with elaborate haunted stations, touted as safer alternatives to traditional trick-or-treating on dark streets.The Southeastern Division police station building on Skyline Drive was transformed into a walk-though “haunted station," with room after room of zombies, creepy clowns and ghouls, some played by department employees in costume.“It’s all in good fun, for the kids to save a safe place to go, to get a little scared but in a safe environment,” San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman said before she took a tour of the haunts.Joseph Lemon, Jr. does not let his 11-year-old daughter Ananda do traditional trick-or-treating.“It’s not as safe as it used to be, and you have to go and x-ray the candy and all of that," Lemon, Jr. said. "Now many of the churches and the police department put on events like this that are safer.”  They also had candy and entertainment in the parking lot. Zimmerman said about 500 families tour the haunted station each year.In National City, the training tower at Fire Station #34 on East 16th Street became “Tower of Terror” for the tenth year in a row.Hundreds of people lined up throughout the night to walk through the maze of haunted rooms and be scared by ghouls, played by students from Sweetwater High School and firefighters.They also had candy, a costume contest, a bounce house and less-scary games for the little ones.National City Police say just after 8:30 p.m. several juvenile males threw eggs at the event.No one was hit and there was no damage to any property. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County started the rainfall season in October bone dry, but now the region is getting ready for another storm in time for Thanksgiving.San Diego's weekend will be great, cooling down on Monday before the storm arrives. Winds will pick up on Tuesday. Then, the surf will increase along the coast before the Thanksgiving storm arrives.The atmospheric river will potentially set up the stage for heavy rain, flash flooding, and thunderstorms during the major winter storm. Rainfall totals could average from 3-5 inches for the coast and valleys and 4-8 inches in the mountains. Snow levels will start out high around 8,000 feet. That means snow could fall in Julian, Palomar, Mt. Laguna, and even Descanso. Often times San Diego is the envy of the nation, especially during the holiday. The region's warmest Thanksgiving happened in 2017, hitting 87 degrees. Last year the holiday took a chilly turn, plunging down to 58 degrees — just 4 degrees shy of San Diego's coldest Thanksgiving in 1919. Last year, San Diego also picked up 0.04 inches of light rain. The wettest Thanksgiving in San Diego's history received 1.26 inches in 2008, but the expected winter system this week could challenge that record.Traveling this ThanksgivingThe expected wet weather is especially important to consider, as this holiday expects to see the highest Thanksgiving volume on record for California travelers. The holiday will also be the second-highest travel volume nationally since 2000, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.AAA says about 7 million Americans will be traveling 50 miles or more this Thanksgiving.
