DEL MAR (KGTV): The Del Mar Racetrack will open it's fall season Friday afternoon, it's the fifth year of the Bing Crosby Racing Season."You got 16 days to basically, do everything," says CEO Joe Harper.The shorter season features smaller crowds and smaller fields, but trainer Peter Miller says that's part of its charm."It's easy to get a drink. It's easy to get a bet down. It's easy to watch the races. It's better," he says. "And it's better to train the horses on this kind of a laid back, easy going situation."Miller's horses won 31 races at Del Mar over the summer. He hopes to have similar success over the next month.Around the track, Harper says betters can have success by getting more access to horses and betting lines."It's a short meet. It's full of good horses and good racing. She said in an interview with NBC News that for some, the music is a reminder of the joy of the holiday season."When the brain makes these associations with something very positive and pleasurable, the rewards system is being activated [which triggers] a number of chemicals including dopamine," she told NBC News. But for others, Freeman said, "The reward system can also be associated with pain. DENVER – Funeral services for a pregnant Colorado woman and her two daughters, who were killed earlier this month and dumped at an oil and gas site will be held Saturday in Pinehurst, North Carolina.The family of 34-year-old Shanann Watts, her daughters, 4-year-old Bella Marie and 3-year-old Celeste Cathryn, and Shanann’s unborn child, which the family said was going to be called Nico, announced in the Sandhill Sentinel that funeral services would be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Pinehurst.“She was out pride and joy, a true gift from God,” Shanann’s father and mother, Frank Rzucek and Sandra Onorati Rzucek, wrote in her obituary. “We were so blessed to have such a joyful and wonderful daughter whose beauty was that of a doll.”The obituary says Shanann battled Lupus during life and that Celeste’s birth was exciting because of her struggle with the disease. She and her family were originally from North Carolina.The family asks people to donate to the Lupus Foundation of America, the Frederick (Colo.) (KGTV) - The Del Mar City Council voted to add more enforcement to their community, specifically targeting people who are not following county health orders regarding masks.The city currently contracts with the sheriff’s department for one single deputy to be on the clock 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but with this new addition, two more part-time deputies will be added. The two will work four hours a week, likely on the weekends, patrolling the streets as usual, with an extra eye on people violating county health orders. The focus will be on education first, but violations could result in a misdemeanor costing up to ,000. That money does not go back to the city of Del Mar, but rather to the county.City Councilman Dave Druker has lived in Del Mar for 34 years. He said recently, crowds visiting the beach community have discouraged locals from leaving their homes, so the goal is not only keep visitors safe but also support locals.“There’s a whole lot of people in town that are, at this point, terrified to go out,” said Druker.He said with their small community and large crowds of visitors, the one deputy was not enough to keep up with the rules.“Because our budget is based on 4,000 people and we have close to 20,000 people on a daily basis here, we thought we should add a little bit of enforcement to this,” said Druker.The total cost of the additional positions for the next four months is ,000, which will come from the 0,000 that Druker said the City Council set aside for COVID-19 relief efforts.
