ASTANA, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao wrapped up his Central Asia trip Saturday after visiting Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, and attending a Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent.Hu started his trip Wednesday in Tashkent, where he and his Uzbek counterpart Islam Karimov exchanged views on the current situation and prospects of bilateral ties as well as international and regional issues of common concern.The two leaders signed a joint statement on the further development of the friendly and cooperative partnership between China and Uzbekistan. Chinese President Hu Jintao (7th L) and other participants of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit pose for a group photo in Tashkent, capital of Uzbekistan, on June 11, 2010Hu and other SCO leaders met in Tashkent on Friday for the annual SCO summit. They also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.Political analysts say Hu's Central Asia trip is conducive to promoting the SCO's sustained, healthy and stable development and strengthening China's ties with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

GENEVA, June 14 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese official on Monday called for continued international cooperation in tackling unemployment and other social problems caused by the global financial crisis."The international financial crisis is still ongoing, and in particular jobs recovery in many countries lag far behind their economic recovery," said Wang Xiaochu, deputy minister of human resources and social security."As the destiny of countries is interconnected in this world, we need to work together like passengers in the same boat to overcome the impact of the crisis, strive to build a global environment that is more fair and equitable, and achieve as quickly as possible recovery and inclusive growth through decent work," Wang said.The official was addressing a high-level session of the 99th International Labor Conference, which lasts from June 1 to June 18 focusing on global employment issues following the economic crisis.Wang said the Chinese government had adopted a host of measures aimed at promoting a more active employment policy and improving the social security system, as part of the country's efforts to implement the International Labor Organization's Global Jobs Pact.He said those measures had been successful. "By the end of 2009, the most difficult period for employment in China was over. Some 11.02 million new jobs had been created in urban areas in the whole year.""The employment situation for the youth is better than previous years. BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- China's Supreme People's Court (SPC) has urged more efforts to clear the backlog of cases as a campaign to complete long-delayed verdicts had seen positive results.Various local departments were urged to be "fully aware" of the importance of the speedy execution of court orders and tackling the backlog of cases, said a statement released Tuesday after a meeting on backlogged cases.The meeting was jointly held by the Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the SPC.Statistics cited in the statement show that since a campaign on clearing backlogged cases started in November 2008, long-delayed verdicts for more than 333,000 property cases had been completed.In addition, more than 3 million cases not involving properties had also been cleared.The two organizations urged police, banks, financial administrative departments, tax departments and other units that might be involved in case execution to fully support and coordinate the enforcement of court orders.The statement also called for harsher punishments and restrictions in real estate, credit rating and other fields for defendants who refused to follow court orders."The campaign is in accordance with the people's interests... and will have positive effects on promoting social harmony and stability," said Wang Lequan, deputy secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission, at the meeting.

CHANGSHA, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Ten people have been confirmed dead after two manganese mines in central China's Hunan Province were flooded two weeks ago, local authorities said Monday.Water gushed into the two mine pits run by Leixin Mining Development Co. and Wenhua Manganese Co. in Huayuan County of Xiangxi Tujia-Miao Autonomous Prefecture at about 6:10 p.m. on July 20, trapping a total of 13 miners underground.Rescuers pulled three miners alive out of the mines on July 29 and sent them to hospital. Currently, they are in stable condition, a spokesman with the Hunan Provincial Work Safety Administration said Monday.Rescuers had earlier retrieved seven bodies, and they found the last three bodies on Sunday morning, the spokesman said.Local authorities are further investigating the cause of the accident, he added.
