A 6th-grade student at Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School in Martin County, Florida has been charged with a misdemeanor after he simulated a shooting, pretending to have a semi-automatic weapon. The Martin County Sheriff's Office said students told teachers that the 6th-grade student allegedly said he had a gun for protection. A school resource officer searched the student and his backpack and did not find a weapon. The child was allowed back to class, but a deputy said, in class, the student put his hands up as if he was firing a semi-automatic weapon and began to make pop noises. The Martin County Sheriff's Office was called out to the school and the student was arrested for disrupting a school function. He is charged with a misdemeanor. No weapon was found. Parents were notified that there was an incident."It was very unnerving and disturbing and once again it's the kids that are suffering and it freaked me out after dropping off my son today, giving him a kiss and knowing how the other parents feel about yesterday and that the kids aren't here. It's heartbreaking," said Shari Sullivan, whose son is in 7th grade. MESSAGE FROM ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL TO PARENTS:Good afternoon, this is Joe Flanagan, Asst Principal of Anderson Middle School. I have an important message to share with you. Today, school officials worked in partnership with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office as we became aware that one of our students made a non-credible threat to his classmates and teacher related to the recent tragedy. The student is in custody of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and is being charged with a misdemeanor for disruption of a school function. 1709
All Coca-Cola needed to do to rejuvenate Diet Coke was add some Feisty Cherry, Twisted Mango, Ginger Lime and Zesty Blood Orange. In skinny cans.Diet Coke posted sales volume growth in North America during the first quarter, thanks in large part to those four new flavors. Coca-Cola said it was the first time Diet Coke's volume had risen in the United States and Canada since late 2010.The new Diet Coke flavors, introduced in January, were "bold enough and interesting enough" to attract more Millennials and people who prefer flavored sparkling water to soda, CEO James Quincey said. The long slump in Diet Coke sales is partly because of the popularity of LaCroix, a sparkling water brand owned by National Beverage. Coca-Cola is looking to gain ground in that market: It bought the rights to sell the Mexican mineral water Topo Chico in the United States last October. But consumers, especially Millennials, have also turned away from diet soda in favor of healthier options.Quincey, who took over as CEO of Coke last May from longtime chief Muhtar Kent, said in February that Coke needs to shake things up if it wants to attract younger customers. The new Diet Coke flavors are an example of that."We've got to experiment, which means learning from the tech industry, the 1.0, the 2.0, the 3.0. Don't make it perfect, get something out there, learn, and make it better," Quincey told Harlow.Coke has been busy with other newish products. It rebranded Coke Zero as Coke Zero Sugar — and that subtle change also seems to be working. Sales rose at a double-digit pace in the quarter. Tea and coffee sales were up 5%, too.Wall Street wasn't impressed with Coke's results, though. Even though overall sales and profits topped forecasts, the stock fell nearly 2% on Tuesday. Shares are down 6% this year.Pablo Zuanic, an analyst at Susquehanna Financial Group, noted that lower pricing in North America may have helped boost sales. And Wall Street may not be pleased with that. He said he expected the stock to "tread water" as a result. For the past five years, Coke's stock has lagged top rival Pepsi, which also owns a thriving snack food business, and Dr Pepper Snapple, which recently agreed to sell itself to the coffee giant Keurig Green Mountain. 2259
After tweeting a halt to negotiations over economic relief, then later seemingly to imply a willingness to “sign right now” on relief efforts, President Donald Trump’s chief of staff says they are looking at stand alone measures.“The president has already been on the phone this morning talking to [Treasury] Secretary [Steve] Mnuchin,” White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows told Fox and Friends Wednesday morning. “The secretary and I have been talking about what we could do with stand-alone bills to help airlines, small businesses and the American people with stimulus checks. So hopefully we can convince Speaker Pelosi to do something on a stand-alone basis.”“Secretary Mnuchin and the president have offered .6 trillion and they have said they are willing to look more at that,” Meadows continued in his interview with Fox and Friends, “and (Pelosi) continues to say that is not enough.”Negotiations have been ongoing between Mnuchin and Pelosi, with both sides hoping to pass a pandemic relief package before Election Day. After President Trump returned to the White House following a positive COVID-19 diagnosis and treatment at Walter Reed Medical Center, he tweeted he was walking away from the relief talks Tuesday afternoon. Then, later Tuesday night, he tweeted “If I am sent a Stand Alone Bill for Stimulus Checks (,200), they will go out to our great people IMMEDIATELY. I am ready to sign right now. Are you listening Nancy?” 1455
