L'AQUILA, Italy, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo on Wednesday called for more cooperation among the five leading developing countries (G5) to address international challenges.     Dai listed four aspects for further cooperation and coordination among the G5 when he, on behalf of Chinese President Hu Jintao, addressed the leaders' meeting of China, India, Brazil, South Africa and Mexico on Wednesday afternoon in the earthquake-stricken Italian city of L'Aquila.     According to a press release issued by the Chinese delegation, Dai said the G5 should join hands to cope with the international financial crisis.     Dai proposed that the G5 countries make join efforts to enhance the regulation of global financial system.     he urged the G5 countries to actively address the challenges of climate change and cooperate on addressing non-traditional security threats.     The Chinese state councilor also reiterated the importance of the unity of the G5, calling for continuing cooperation on a wide range of global issues.

BEIJING, May 26 (Xinhua) -- China's central government has allocated 270 billion yuan (about 39.7 billion U.S. dollars) for infrastructure investment so far this year, a National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) official told legislators Tuesday.     That amount is part of a planned total of 367.6 billion yuan in the 2009 central budget.     Adding another 30 billion yuan from last year's budget meant that the country had already allocated 300 billion yuan to infrastructure investment since the fourth quarter of last year, NDRC vice director Mu Hong told legislators.     The NDRC is China's top economic planning body.     Mu made his comments during a session on major public investment projects held by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the top legislature.     The money is also part of the 4-trillion-yuan, two-year stimulus plan announced late last year as the economic downturn deepened.

BEIJING, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and his U.S. counterpart, Barack Obama, on Wednesday discussed bilateral relations and the A/H1N1 flu epidemic during a telephone conversation.     Hu recalled that during their meeting at the Group of 20 summit in London in early April, he and Obama agreed to work together to build a positive, cooperative and comprehensive relationship in the 21st century.     The two leaders also reached extensive consensus on the establishment of the mechanism of China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogues, joint efforts to tackle the international financial crisis, and enhanced coordination and cooperation on major global and regional issues, Hu said.     "Now, both countries are seriously implementing the consensus," the Chinese president said.     "China is willing to work with the United States to push for a healthy and stable development of China-U.S. relations," he said.     Obama, for his part, said the meeting with Hu was important because it outlined the future development of bilateral cooperation and made a good start on the China-U.S. strategic dialogue.     The United States appreciated China's efforts to promote bilateral relations, he said.     The Chinese president expressed sincere condolences over the A/H1N1 flu epidemic that has hit parts of the United States, and said the Chinese government has started emergency measures to prevent a spread of the disease.     "We are willing to keep contact with the World Health Organization, the United States and other parties concerned, and strengthen cooperation to jointly confront this public health challenge," Hu said.     Obama said his country has adopted effective measures against the disease and will continue to keep a close eye on the outbreak.     The U.S. president said he was looking forward to meeting with Hu again during a meeting of leaders of the Group of Eight nations and developing countries in Italy.
