(CNN) -- At least four people were shot dead and two others were wounded Thursday in Los Angeles before the gunman was captured, authorities said.Gerry Dean Zaragoza, 26, killed his father and brother at their home, fatally wounded a woman he knew at a gas station and shot a man on a bus who died, police said. There is no obvious motive for any of the killings, said Capt. William Hayes of the Robbery-Homicide Division of the Los Angeles Police Department."We're evaluating it, we're interviewing witnesses but we can't come up with a specific answer," he told reporters.Hayes said the shootings began at about 1:20 a.m. in Canoga Park when Zaragoza shot his parents and brother. Zaragoza's father and brother were killed and his mother injured, Officer Greg Kraft said.About an hour later, Zaragoza went to a gas station in North Hollywood, where he shot a woman and a man who were working there, Hayes said.Hayes said Zaragoza knew the woman previously. She died at a hospital. Hayes said the man survived; police had said earlier that the victim was in critical condition.Police also think Zaragoza is responsible for an attempted robbery near an ATM at a bank and for a fatal shooting on a bus at a stop in Van Nuys."He didn't do anything. He was just sitting on the bus," a witness told CNN affiliate KABC about the victim.Another witness on the bus told CNN affiliate KCAL/KCBS he had a close encounter with the gunman as people fled the scene in a panic."The guy ... ended up coming towards me and basically once he started comng towards me -- he actually like still had the gun out," Carlos Hurtado de Jesus said. "I started going around the bus and ended up seeing him leave and put the gun away.He was arrested about 2 p.m. by investigators in street clothes with a minor struggle, Hayes said.Zaragoza had a handgun, the captain said."We're deeply saddened by the loss of life and I've deployed my Crisis Response Team ... to support families impacted by the tragedies," Mayor Eric Garcetti tweeted. 2019

"The staff and students of Kenosha Unified School District, along with members of the Kenosha community, continue to grapple with the tragic shooting incident that occurred in our community last spring. In recent weeks and days, the District received requests from students, parents, and the general public, including representatives of both families, concerning the District's position regarding memorializing or acknowledging the students involved. The District sought legal counsel with Lori M. Lubinsky, attorney with Axley Brynelson, LLP regarding these requests and has decided to follow the legal advice received. The District will not sanction any memorials or acknowledgements because it would be legally required to do so for all students involved in order to protect the District against possible legal claims. Instead, the District will remain neutral. While the District fully supports students and staff in moments of crisis, it cannot allow memorializing or acknowledging one student without allowing it for both.In addition, student-organized efforts will not be endorsed and/or supported by the District and/or its personnel. However, the District will not prevent students from memorializing or acknowledging those involved in their own ways, except when they are acting on behalf of or representing Bradford and/or the District (e.g. as an athlete, speaker, performer, etc.).Many in the Kenosha community may not agree with this difficult decision, but the District asks that the public honor its decision as it works to take into consideration the well-being of all of its students - past, present and future. In closing, the District cares deeply for everyone involved, and our thoughts are with all of the families, friends and community members impacted by this event." 1798

WOODLAND PARK, Colo. — The parents of missing Colorado mom Kelsey Berreth filed a wrongful death lawsuit against her fiancé Patrick Frazee.Attorneys for Darrell and Cheryl-Lee Berreth filed the lawsuit Friday in U.S. District Court in Denver. The suit is seeking an unspecified amount for the Idaho couple’s grief and suffering following the death of their 29-year-old daughter, whose body has yet to be recovered. The lawsuit alleges Berreth was “murdered on or about November 22, 2018, at the direction and/or hand of Frazee in or about Woodland Park, Teller County, state of Colorado.”The couple is also suing for negligence, alleging “Frazee enacted physical, mental, and emotional acts of violence upon Kelsey Berreth prior to her death, Frazee breached the duty of care with which a reasonable person should conduct himself toward another human being.”Frazee was formally charged with murder Monday morning. Authorities allege he tried to find someone to kill Berreth three times between September and November and causing her death on or around Thanksgiving.Berreth was last seen Thanksgiving Day on a grocery store surveillance video with the couple's 1-year-old daughter. Frazee said the two met that day to exchange their child.Authorities believe Berreth was killed at her home in Woodland Park, Colorado. Her cellphone was tracked to Gooding, Idaho, three days after Thanksgiving.ABC News reported earlier this week that a 32-year-old Twin Falls, Idaho, woman was under investigation for possibly disposing of Berreth’s cell phone. During a court appearance Friday, a judge allowed Frazee to receive a copy of the arrest affidavit in his case but ruled that the document, which contains details of what led prosecutors to charge Frazee with murder and solicitation in Berreth’s death, would remain sealed to the public pending a preliminary hearing. 1903

Demi Lovato is experiencing "complications" and remains hospitalized following her apparent drug overdose, two sources close to the singer tell CNN.Those complications include "nausea, vomiting and a high fever," the sources say.Although she's expected to "make a full recovery," there is "no estimate" as to when she will be released from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center?in Los Angeles."[We are] taking it day by day," one of the sources said.No information has been released regarding what led to her hospitalization. There were reports Lovato overdosed on heroin, but a source close to the singer denied that.Last week, a source with knowledge of the matter told CNN that Lovato plans to seek drug abuse treatment following her release from hospital care.CNN previously reported that Lovato's family and her former boyfriend, Wilmer Valderrama, have been by her side since her hospitalization one week ago.At the time of her apparent overdose, a representative released a statement saying Lovato was "awake and with her family.""Demi is awake and with her family, who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support," said the statement from Lovato's representative. "Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now."Lovato has been open about her struggles with an addiction to cocaine and alcohol, as well as mental health issues and an eating disorder. She also sought professional help for substance abuse and entered rehab in 2010."You just have to take it one day at a time; some days are easier than others and some days you forget about drinking and using, but for me, I work on my physical health, which is important, but my mental health as well," Lovato said, adding that she was seeing her therapist twice a week. "I make sure I stay on my medications. I go to AA meetings. I do what I can physically in the gym. I make it a priority."In the hours after news of her hospitalization broke, fans of the singer took to social media with the hashtag, #HowDemiHasHelpedMe to talk about how she and her music have helped them with their own struggles.Lovato released a single in June called, "Sober" in which she revealed she had relapsed after six years of sobriety."I'm sorry for the fans I lost who watched me fall again," Lovato sings on the track. "I want to be a role model but I'm only human. I'm sorry that I'm here again. I promise I'll get help."Lovato has been touring and promoting her music in recent months. She last performed July 22 at the California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles, California.CNN has reached out to Lovato's representative for comment 2747
