Security experts are clarifying what you should know about the hack against the U.S.Last week, federal authorities warned of the breach in government and private computer systems. It's suspected that Russian attackers were behind it.Some members of Congress have voiced concerns that taxpayers' information could be exposed through the treasury department. But one expert tells us that isn't really valuable to these attackers.“The breach over the last week is much more geared towards nation state secrets, manufacturing secrets, supply chain secrets, you know different intellectual property, than it is personal information,” said Randy Watkins, Chief Technology Officer at CriticalStart.Watkins says the average person likely won't see any immediate impact, but with policy information and military strategies at risk, there could be downstream ramifications.Federal authorities say the hackers primarily got in through software called solar winds that some agencies use.Watkins says that means we need to look more at how we measure security for third party vendors.“A lot of times, the attackers don't need to go directly after the treasury department or the department of defense. Those are very locked down networks, but they can go after the third parties that do business and have connections into those environments, and that's what they did in this scenario.”Officials say this hack could have started as early as last March.Watkins says the type of tech they used is hard to catch, allowing attackers time to patiently collect data under the radar.That means working on detection methods will also be key moving forward. 1641

Gina Austin could not take seeing the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. She packed up kayaks, jet skis and supplies and headed to Texas where she helped save people and pets. Austin makes it sound simple. But she was elbow deep in devastation for a week. Her first rescue was a tiny one."We found a little Chihuahua and we were calling her baby girl," she said, noting that she worked with a rescue group to help save thousands of animals. "People had chained their animals up so we actually had to go in with bolt cutters. There were dogs just clinging to cars..."At one point, Austin said she saw a family in a steel boat paddling toward her with shovels. "And they asked… did anybody see a little Chihuahua?" (KGTV) -- Four juveniles were taken into custody early Wednesday morning after police said they sprayed a 7-Eleven clerk with a fire extinguisher and then proceeded to steal several items from the store.San Diego police said the incident happened at around 3:30 a.m. at a store on Cottonwood Road, near San Ysidro Boulevard, in San Ysidro.According to police, four juveniles entered the store and sprayed the clerk with a fire extinguisher before grabbing items such as alcohol and food.Officers responding to the incident spotted the group and pursued them on foot. The juveniles were eventually caught and taken into custody.Officers recovered the fire extinguisher and some of the items that were taken down the street from the store. 764

SARASOTA, Fla. -- A Florida family is relieved their 4-year-old daughter is still alive days after she swallowed water in the family's swimming pool while playing with a pool noodle.Elianna Grace has been fighting an infection ever since."Were you scared?" Lacey Grace asked her daughter. "No, she wasn’t scared she was super, super, super brave!"Even after Elianna was hooked up to IVs, oxygen tanks and a nebulizer this week, fighting an infection caused by the chemicals in her family pool."It was just a fun game. You know, when somebody would go by her or swim by her she would take the noodle and pretend like she wasn’t looking and she would shoot water at them," said Grace. "Then somebody wanted to do it back to her and didn’t realize that she was already on the other end of it."Water was blown down her throat. She threw it up right away and started acting normal."I wouldn’t have known about it if that one person didn’t write that story," said Grace, referring to the story about a 4-year-old Texas boy who died last year after dry drowning.Lacey recalled that article right after the incident. Two days later, Elianna developed a fever and by the next day her skin had turned purple. She knew something was wrong."I called my husband and I was crying and I said you know they said to get her to the nearest ER as quick as you can," said Grace.The water at some point seeped into Elianna's lungs and she was slowly dry drowning.
