Northwestern University in the Chicago suburb of Evanston was under a lockdown order for nearly an hour after reports came in Wednesday afternoon of a person on campus with a gun and shots fired. It turns out that the whole incident was a hoax. According to ABC News, an Evanston Police official said that the report was a swatting incident. The emergency call to police claiming there was a gunman on Northwestern's campus came from out of state.  Swatting pranks have been taking place in recent years involving a call to police prompting a SWAT unit to respond to a person's home. The prank sometimes end up being deadly. In December, a 28-year-old Kansas man was shot and killed by police after a prankster claimed the man was holding his family hostage after shooting his father. When police arrived, the man reached for a waistband, causing police to kill the man. It turns out he was unarmed, and the call came from 1,400 miles away. Northwestern University originally reported that a person with a gun was located near Engelhart Hall. Evanston Police said that several streets nearby were closed. After an initial search, Evanston Police said they could not find any victims, gunmen or crime scene. Students and employees were being told to seek shelter around 2:40 p.m. local time. An hour after the initial lockdown order, Northwestern said that only those in Englehart Hall remained in shelter. An all clear was given shortly after 4 p.m. local time.  1540

New numbers from the National Interagency Fire Center show that 2018 could be one of California's worst ever for wildfires.Already this year, nine wildfires have scorched 721,642 acres across the state. That's the sixth most in the last 20 years. The worst came in 2008 when fires burned 1,375,781 acres.2018 has also been one of the deadliest, with 6 firefighters falling in the line of duty. The most recent came this week in the Mendocino Complex.The fact that all this devastation has come before the "official" start of fire season means this year could be record-setting.Typically, wildfires are most prominent in California in the late summer and fall. That's when Santa Ana winds can fan flames and send heat waves throughout the state. NEW YORK (AP) — The coronavirus pandemic won't stop Charlie Brown, Snoopy, or the "Peanuts" gang from marking an important birthday and they're hoping to raise the spirits of sick kids while celebrating. The beloved comic marks its 70th anniversary this week by donating "Peanuts" murals for kids to paint in 70 children's hospitals around the globe, from Brooklyn to Brazil. The 4-foot-8-inch wide by 4-foot-1-inch high murals are being sent to participating hospitals in six pieces, along with smocks, brushes, and paints in 13 colors. Children and hospital staffers are encouraged to paint the easy-to-follow templates, a diversion that gains even more importance during coronavirus restrictions.Apple+ also announced they are releasing a new series called "The Snoopy Show." Newly released police body cam shows Waffle House shooting suspect Travis Reinking in East Tennessee two months before the Antioch attack.It's video from a motel in Alcoa, where Reinking was staying in February while working on a construction project. Full Coverage: Antioch Waffle House ShootingOne clip showed one of his several run-ins with the law. One of those run-ins happened just two months ago.Reinking told the officer someone kept knocking on his window and yelling. However, it was a woman who called police on him for allegedly threatening her in a violent manner. "They'll be talking loud at night, knock on the windows and walk off, and I don't know who it is,” Reinking said in the clip. Samantha Veals said she was trying to put her kids to sleep when she heard Reinking yelling.She told him to be quiet, at which point he allegedly charged inside her motel room, balled up his fist and laughed at her when she screamed.  Reinking admitted to police that he yelled at Veals but denied charging at her. He checked out of the motel that night and Veals opted to not press charges. Reinking?was arrested Monday and charged with four counts of criminal homicide, four counts of attempted murder and one count of unlawful gun possession in the commission of a violent felony.  The Waffle House reopened Wednesday and for the next month, is donating 100 percent of its proceeds to the victims of the attack.  More:  1514
