SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Just a few weeks ago, coronavirus testing was hard to come by. But now, many San Diegans are finding it easier to get tested. Some are purchasing at-home test kits online, at no up-front cost.Raechel Kadoya is not a clinician, nor is she at a doctor's office. She is the co-owner of Soichi Sushi, giving herself a COVID-19 test."I want to take advantage of being proactive," Kadoya said as she swabbed her nose.Since the modified re-opening of her restaurant in University Heights, she and her staff have been cautious about coronavirus exposure. That is why she ordered the Pixel by Labcorp at-home COVID-19 test kit for her entire staff."I think that it is my responsibility as a business owner, not only to my staff but to my customers and my family, to make sure that everybody is doing business here safely," Kadoya said.This is the staff's second round of testing. Kadoya said the first one required multiple doctors referrals just to get a drive-through appointment an hour away."We were able to find a place in Lake Elsinore, so we all had to drive up there," Kadoya said.Dr. Abi Olulade, a family medicine physician at Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group, said the accessibility of these at-home tests is a big draw."It definitely is something that is very convenient for consumers," Dr. Olulade said.But she suggested customers do their homework before they order."They should be looking at whether or not the tests that they are using have been FDA authorized, and it's not just some random test that they found on the internet," Dr. Olulade said.As of June 12, 2020, seven at-home COVID-19 test kits have the FDA's emergency use authorization. They are:Phosphorus DiagnosticsPrivapathP23 LabsEverlywellRutgers University LabQuest DiagnosticsLabcorpTo get this authorization, the FDA requires at-home tests to have 95% accuracy in detecting positive results and 100% accuracy in detecting negative results.Insurance covered the upfront costs for Kadyoa's staff. But for those without insurance, some tests are covered by federal funds.From an accessibility and affordability stand-point, Kadoya said this is what works best for her."I want to do this every couple of weeks as maintenance," Kadoya said.Dr. Olulade also said to make sure the labs doing the testing also have CLIA certification, which sets national standards for accuracy, quality, and reliability. 2397

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- In anticipation of its members returning, 24 Hour Fitness locations around San Diego County have made several changes that will allow them to follow county health guidelines and keep their doors open.Under the state’s tiered system for businesses, 24 Hour Fitness is among those able to resume indoor operations, but with specific modifications in place.The fitness centers are now requiring reservations for 90-minute workout sessions, and each location can only operate at 10 percent capacity, so they have to keep a close eye on how many people are inside of the building.While reservations will not be required for clubs in San Diego County, each club in the county will be capped at a 10 percent capacity.Jeremy Franke, Regional Vice President of 24 Hour Fitness, said, “We have a check-in system where we can check at any time and know how many people are in the club. And when we reach capacity, our system flags and says we’re at capacity. And we’ll have the next person wait. Like retail stores, we let one in and one out if we get full.”Once inside the gym, social distancing is a must. There are signs and markers that remind members about staying six feet apart.24 Hour Fitness has also stepped up with cleaning and disinfecting, shutting everything down for 30-minute periods throughout the day to do so.Some things will remain closed, such as spas, saunas, pools, and basketball courts. Drinking fountains won’t be available either.Management also says each of their 25 locations in San Diego County will be very strict when it comes to enforcing wearing facial coverings.Right now, group classes are not yet available, but 24 Hour Fitness is working on bringing those back.Hours of operations have also changed temporarily, with clubs operating from 5 a.m.-9 p.m. 1806

If you're out being active, more organic natural moments will arrive," Tingler told reporters, saying that he doesn't plan to sit in his office often.The Padres introduced the former Texas Rangers coach to the media at Petco Park Thursday. In front of a backdrop of brown and gold, general manager A.J. Preller spoke on Tingler's experience and confidence in him managing the team starting in 2020. Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez, who recently took over as Mexico's Consul General in San Diego, was the first speaker, followed by San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan.An estimate by the United Nations reveals that millions of people are living in modern day slavery worldwide. In San Diego, the most common form of human trafficking is for sexual exploitation. The District Attorney's office told 10News that between 3,000 and 7,000 women are sex trafficked through the county each year, with the average age of the victim's being just 16.RELATED: Two teens arrested in San Diego for possible sex trafficking of 12-year-old girl"We have to watch the borders, but we also have to watch in the privacy of the bedrooms of our kids," Stephan said during an interview with 10News.The forum came just a few days after 18 Camp Pendleton Marines and one Navy sailor were arrested, accused of taking part in human trafficking and drug smuggling from Mexico.
