SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- A man accused of intentionally driving a pickup truck off Sunset Cliffs and into the ocean with his twin toddler daughters inside is slated to be arraigned Monday.Robert Brians, 47, is charged with 13 counts, including attempted murder, kidnapping, child abuse, child abduction, criminal threats and burglary for allegedly driving into the water on the morning of June 13 with his 2-year- old daughters inside the truck. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man accused of opening fire inside a Poway synagogue, killing a woman and injuring three other people, pleaded not guilty today to more than 100 federal hate crime charges alleging he acted out of hatred toward the Jewish and Muslim communities.John T. Earnest, 19, is accused not only of the synagogue shooting but also of an earlier arson fire at an Escondido mosque. He is being charged by both federal and state prosecutors and faces a possible death sentence in both cases. Neither office has made a decision regarding whether they will pursue the death penalty.Earnest, of Rancho Penasquitos, is accused of carrying out the shooting at Chabad of Poway on April 27 -- the last day of Passover -- killing Lori Gilbert Kaye, 60, who was shot twice in the synagogue's foyer and died at a hospital.The congregation's rabbi, Yisroel Goldstein, 57, lost an index finger in the shooting. Two other people -- Almog Peretz, 34, and his 8-year-old niece, Noya Dahan -- were also injured.Earnest is also accused of setting a March 24 fire at an Escondido mosque -- a crime to which Earnest allegedly confessed in an online manifesto he posted prior to the synagogue shooting.Following his initial appearance Tuesday afternoon, he's slated to return to court May 28 for a preliminary hearing. SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- Hundreds of thousands of San Diegans are expected to cast their ballots in person today, Election Day, with over 1 million ballots already received.The San Diego County Registrar of Voters said more than 1.1 million ballots have been received and nearly 60,000 residents have voted early in-person as of Monday, well more than double when compared to this point in the 2016 presidential election.Of the 1.95 million registered voters in the county, 1,114,627 had already turned in their ballots as of election eve. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man who jumped onstage during a Taylor Swift concert at Petco Park in 2015 and was tackled by members of her security team -- seriously injuring one of them -- is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday for allegedly beating a man to death in the Midway District earlier this month. Christian Ewing, 29, was arrested last Friday for a parole violation and was re-arrested Monday on suspicion of murder in the death of 57-year-old Gregory Freeman. Freeman was found Dec. 5 in the 3900 block of Rosecrans Street near the Interstate 5 overpass, police said. Freeman, who had trauma to his upper body, was taken to a hospital but died four days later. One witness told police that Freeman was on the ground when a man began to hit him with some sort of object. The attacker then fled, said San Diego police Lt. Anthony Dupree. More than three years ago, Ewing sneaked into Swift's concert and jumped onstage while she was performing. He was tackled by security guards, one of whom suffered a broken rib.
