A postal worker's union says that USPS employees were not involved in an incident that led to several unopened mail bags dumped in two separate locations in Glendale, California, last week.On Thursday, KTLA-TV in Los Angeles obtained surveillance footage that showed a Budget rental truck pulling into the parking lot of Glendale spa.That morning, at about 5:40 a.m. local time, the truck pulled into the parking lot of 7Q Spa Laser & Aesthetics and began pulling bags of unopened mail and packages out of the truck. The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that the Glendale Police Department had opened investigations into the incidents.On Tuesday, Omar Gonzalez, the Western Regional Coordinator for the American Postal Workers Union, told CNN that the person caught on surveillance footage dumping mail was a "contractor," and not a USPS employee.It's unclear how the mail made it on to a Budget rental truck. Mail coming into the Glendale post office is supposed to arrive on USPS trucks."If it's outgoing, we don't know how it got into the Budget truck," Gonzalez told CNN.CNN also confirmed Tuesday that the Postal Inspector's Office had opened an investigation. The mail recovered from the scene will "go through a verification process and be delivered."The mail dumping incidents come amid scrutiny of the USPS following the appointment of Louis DeJoy as postmaster general. Since President Donald Trump appointed him to take over the USPS in June, postal employees say that DeJoy — a longtime Republican donor and Trump supporter — has attempted to institute policy changes that have led to significant mail delivery delays.The delays have sparked concern that the agency won't be able to handle increased mail-in voting during the upcoming general election.Last month, DeJoy said the USPS would hold off on implementing further changes ahead of the 2020 election but has said he will not restore previous policies or bring back mail sorting equipment that has already been taken off-line.Democrats in the House of Representatives announced Tuesday that they were opening an investigation into allegations of campaign finance violations against DeJoy. 2462

A memorial outside a Pittsburgh synagogue continues to grow, after the deadliest attack against Jews in U.S. history.The rabbi of the Pittsburgh synagogue opens up Monday about the moments the gunman started shooting.Rabbi Jeffrey Myers tried to save members of his Tree of Life congregation, when the gunman opened fire.“At that time, I instructed my congregants to drop to the floor, do not utter a sound, and don't move,” Rabbi Myers recalls. “Our pews are thick hulled oak, and I thought perhaps there's some protection there.”The rabbi says he helped a group of people in the front of congregation escape, but he says he felt helpless for those trapped in the back.“I could hear the gunfire getting louder,” he says. “It was no longer safe for me to be there, and I had to leave them. One of the eight was shot and she's survived her wounds. The other seven of my congregants were gunned down in my sanctuary. There was nothing I could do.”The gunman, identified as Robert Bowers, murdered 11 people. A terrifying email scam using stolen passwords and sextortion is trying to scare many out of their money.There are variations of the blackmail threat, but in most cases, a password that someone once used or is still using appears in the subject line of the email.The hackers claim to have "evidence of your secret" after installing malware on adult video sites.The email explains web cameras were hacked and recordings were made of the person watching the pornography.The hackers then demand anywhere from ,000 to ,600 in bitcoin or the video will be released to all contacts, including family members and co-workers."It's a non-negotiable offer, thus please do not ruin my personal time and yours," one hacker wrote. "The clock is ticking.""It's really electronic blackmail," cybersecurity expert Tim Dimoff said. "This is a very well-structured blackmail. Boy, it looks believable."However, it's all a nasty scam. There are no videos and the hackers may have one of your passwords, but they don't have all of your information."If you look in the body of the email, they're not using your name. They're not saying what specific website you might be going to and they don't have a screenshot of you," said Christy Page, the president and CEO of the Better Business Bureau in Akron.Page said more than 130 complaints have reported nationwide through BBB's scam tracker.It's not clear how many of those people gave up the ransom, but it's estimated 0,000 has been paid this year by people frightened by the threat."The fear of embarrassment can be very powerful to get you to part with your money," Page said.Dimoff and Page said the hackers likely used the dark web to buy passwords that were stolen during data breaches and the hackers can be very difficult to track.Page said anyone who receives the email should not pay any money or respond to it.  However, passwords should be changed immediately.In addition, Page said people should consider using a password manager and a web camera cover for extra peace of mind.
