PARIS, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Legislative bodies of China and France launched their regular parliamentary exchange mechanism on Thursday, vowing to further push forward the Sino-French comprehensive strategic partnership.Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), and Bernard Accoyer, speaker of the French National Assembly, jointly declared the beginning of the first meeting of Sino-French Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.Wu said the launch of the high-level meeting between the two legislative bodies signals the Sino-French parliamentary exchanges were promoted to a new stage.Accoyer said the regular parliamentary exchange mechanism could serve as an important platform for both nations to exchange views on mutual concerns and promote bilateral cooperation in politics, technology, new energy and environmental protection.Ahead of the meeting, Wu and Accoyer held talks on bilateral ties and parliamentary cooperation.Accoyer said France attached great importance to Wu's visit as Wu is the first Chinese top legislator that visited France in 13 years.France regards China as a strategic partner, expecting to expand all-round strategic cooperation with China, boost coordination on international issues, through joint efforts against global financial crisis, climate change and other challenges, he said.Wu said his ongoing visit to France is aimed to build a closer relation between the Chinese NPC and the French National Assembly. He stressed that China will hold more dialogues and communications with France to enhance political mutual trust and boost the Sino- French economic cooperation.Earlier on the day, Wu held talks with French Senate President Gerard Larcher. The two leaders agreed that parliamentary exchange plays an important role in developing the Sino-French ties and enhancing mutual understanding between the two peoples.

BEIJING, June 22 (Xinhua) -- As a large number of new sites were discovered during the most recent survey of national cultural relics, Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong called for the careful filing and scientific preservation of all survey results on Tuesday.Liu made the remarks at a meeting of the third national cultural relics survey, which is expected to pave the way for improved rules on the protection of cultural relics.During the meeting, Liu hailed the current progress of the survey and extended her greetings to all who are working to preserve the nation's sites of cultural relics.Liu said the cultural relics survey is the foundation for protecting and putting to use the country's cultural relics in a scientific way, and is also a key part of evaluating the country's soft power.According to Liu, the on-spot investigation phase has finished, and "a large number of varied, new cultural relics sites" were discovered across the country.Though without overall figures, Liu revealed that newly discovered sites covered fields such as the history of the Party and the period of the revolution, the industrial heritage and traditional rural architecture, as well as others fields of study.The survey, which began in April 2007, will continue until December 2011.

CHANGSHA, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Death toll from a Friday explosion in Changsha City, capital of central China's Hunan Province, has risen to four with 19 people injured, local police said.The explosion went off on the third floor of a branch of Furong District's taxation office on Hengda Road near a downtown residential block at about 4:15 p.m., according to a statement from the city's police.Initial investigations show the explosion was a planned attack, the police said.The police sealed off the building and blocked nearby roads for investigation. All the workers in the building had already evacuated before the police came.Windows of the third floor were all shattered. Large blood stains could been seen on the stairs.The injured have been sent to the hospital.In a separate case in northeast China's Jilin Province, one people was killed and 20 were injured Friday in a series of explosions in a barber's shop in provincial capital Changchun.Four fire fighters were among the injured of the explosions which first blasted at 4:46 p.m, according to a statement from the municipal government.Witnesses say four explosions hit the shop.Fire fighters and workers from a local gas supply company are working at the site. Pieces of shattered windows can be seen forty meters away.The police are investigating the cause of the explosion.

BELGRADE, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo on Wednesday met with Serbian President Boris Tadic, vowing to add new impetus to the traditional friendship between China and Serbia."I am here to help realize the consensus between the two heads of states, pushing forward our strategic partnership and traditional friendship," said Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), who arrived here on Wednesday afternoon for a three-day visit.Wu is the first NPC Standing Committee chairman to visit Serbia over the past decade. China and Serbia have kept long-time friendship, and shared mutual support and respect. But at the same time, we must see that various conflicts have been emerging, especially as many incidents happened recently that harmed the country's stability and induced tremendous negative effects," Zhou said.He noted that such cases exposed the weaknesses in social construction and social management."Party and government departments should focus their work on ensuring and improving people's livelihoods, and making greater efforts in solving prominent issues in education, employment, medical treatment and social insurance in order to let both urban and rural people share the fruits of the country's development," he said.Zhou also urged social security officials to strengthen social construction and management with more effective measures and greater resolution.During the meeting, representatives from various regions reviewed their working experiences in managing social security.
