SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Starting Monday, CVS Pharmacy will begin giving COVID-19 vaccines to staff and residents at California's long term care facilities. On Dec. 18, the first shot was given by a CVS employee at a nursing home in Connecticut."We'll be putting 9,000 vaccinators on the road to give those vaccines across the country," Jonathan Roberts, Vice President of CVS Health, said then.Ten days later, CVS pharmacy will begin its 12-week vaccination program at California's skilled nursing facilities and assisted living centers. The company expects to give the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to around 700,000 people at 15,000 facilities across the state."Retail pharmacies are the foundation of the approach here, both because we are convenient and we're everywhere," Dr. Troy Brennan, Chief Medical Officer of CVS Health, said.Earlier this month, the federal government awarded Walgreens and CVS contracts to roll out the vaccines because of already existing infrastructure and staff. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Several grocery stores are implementing special shopping hours to make sure those most vulnerable to the coronavirus pandemic get supplies without worry.Target, Whole Foods, Albertsons, and others have started opening an hour early to certain groups so they can shop without stress.Here's a list of where those at-risk populations can shop before the general public:COSTCO: Will open special hours for those 60 and up effective on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8-9 a.m. No guests will be admitted.Target: Opening each Wednesday to "vulnerable guests," including the elderly and those with underlying health concerns, an hour early.Walmart: Walmart will offer hour-long senior shopping every Tuesday from March 24 through April 28, for customers aged 60 and older. This will start one hour before the store opens, so check location hours before going. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Six people were arrested after more than a dozen people knocked down barricades outside San Diego Police Department's headquarters.San Diego Police say a group of 20 people arrived at the Broadway headquarters and began knocking down police barricades on Saturday.Police said six people were arrested for assaulting and resisting officers.One officer was taken to a nearby hospital for a knee injury. 427

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Some seniors say they’re hitting a frustrating roadblock of red tape at the DMV. They say health concerns aside, the state has made getting into a field office to complete requirements impossible.Although many DMV tasks can be completed online, the agency requires an in-person visit for several types of service. Once drivers hit the age of 70, the DMV requires them to renew their licenses in-person to take vision and knowledge tests.The DMV has granted drivers aged 70 and up a four-month extension to renew licenses, but only for licenses that expire through July 31. But the DMV isn’t offering new appointments, as it works through the backlog of visits that were canceled during the months-long closure.
