Its long list of prominent graduates includes many of the country's most important directors and popular movie celebrities.Among these directors are Zhang Yimou, winner of the top award at the Venice Film Festival and Chen Kaige, the only Chinese mainland director ever to win the top prize at Festival de Cannes.

BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang said here Monday China would continue to crack down on terrorists and criminals targeting civil aviation.Zhang made the remarks when addressing the opening ceremony of an international conference on air law.The conference will review draft amendments to international conventions on aviation security.Zhang said as a responsible country, China firmly supports international efforts to combat terrorism and will continue to meet its international obligations in the field of civil aviation.Zhang said he hoped delegates could discuss ways to improve international air criminal law.He also expressed hope for the criminalization of unlawful interference that threatens aviation security."We need to send a clear message to the international community and to terrorist groups - any unlawful interfering in civil aviation is intolerable," said Roberto Kobeh Gonzalez, president of the Council for the International Civil Aviation Organization, at the conference.According to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), during the twelve-day conference, delegates from over 60 countries will examine international law concerning aviation security, including the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Civil Aviation and the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Seizure of Aircraft.

BEIJING, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- China and Myanmar agreed on Wednesday to took the opportunity of the 60th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties to consolidate traditional friendship and enhance cooperation in key areas including energy and infrastructure building.Chinese President Hu Jintao and Myanmar's top leader Than Shwe reached the agreement in their one-hour-long talks in the Great Hall of the People.After a red-carpet welcome ceremony for Than Shwe, chairman of Myanmar's State Peace and Development Council, Hu told him China highly valued its relations with the country, and it was an unswerving policy of China to solidify and develop good-neighborly cooperation with Myanmar."The policy will remain unchanged regardless of changes of international situation," he added.Hu said that with the meticulous care of leaders of the elder generations of both sides, China-Myanmar relations had withstood the tests of the ever-changing world since the establishment of diplomatic ties 60 years ago."Our bilateral relations have seen consolidation and growth ever since, and has set an example for friendly relations between countries with different social systems," said the Chinese president.Hailing the profound friendship between the two countries, Than Shwe said the two countries supported and understood each other over the years, citing enhanced friendship and trust, frequent high-level visits and rapid growth of win-win cooperation in various areas.China has stuck to a peaceful development road, said the Myanmar top leader, adding China's stance on major issues such as climate change fully reflected the interests and concerns of vast developing countries.He also reiterated his government's adherence to the one-China policy.This year marks the 60th anniversary of China-Myanmar diplomatic ties. TIANJIN, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations' chief climate change negotiator applauded China on Monday for its efforts in dealing with the challenge of climate change, saying she was impressed by the determination of the Chinese people and their government.Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(UNFCCC), made the remarks in China's northern city of Tianjin at a welcoming reception held by the Chinese government.A new round of UN climate talks is being held in the port city on Oct. 4-9 in preparation for the year-end Cancun summit in Mexico."Here in Tianjin, I have seen much evidence of determination," said Figueres."(I saw the) determination of the government of China to reduce their CO2 emissions per unit of GDP by up to 45 percent by 2020, (and the) determination of the people of China to turn China into the world's leader in renewable energy technology and to find a visionary balance among economic development, poverty eradication and climate protection."Figueres also praised the host city, saying, "(I saw the) determination of the government of Tianjin, China's fourth-largest city, to be a model city for the circular economy, a pilot city for low-carbon growth and an exemplary city for sustainable development.""A striking example is the Tianjin Eco-City project between Singapore and China and with significant private sector investment, which will provide eco-friendly housing for some 350,000 people," she added.More than 3,000 delegates from 177 parties and observer states and over 200 non-governmental organizations are attending the Tianjin gathering, the final one prior to the United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in Cancun at the end of this year.Figueres concluded her speech at the reception with a Chinese proverb, "Zhong Zhi Cheng Cheng," which means "With everyone's determination, we can do anything."
