SINGAPORE, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Admiral Sun Jianguo, Vice Chief of Staff of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA), separately met with Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov, Chairman of the European Union Military Committee Pathick de Rousiers, Chairman of NATO Military Committee Knud Bartels, as well as Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Tea Banh on Saturday during the second day of 14th Shangri-La Dialogue.
Li also called for regular and transparent updates on the rescue and investigation, and said authorities must ensure adequate funding and personnel to conduct rescue work.
Li said that China is willing to continue to enhance dialogue and cooperation with regional organizations in Latin America to push forward its overall cooperation with the area.
The recent U.S.-China tension on the South China Sea issue is a case in point. While China reiterates that the U.S. is not a party in the disputes and should therefore not interfere, some politicians in Washington again resorted to scaremongering, exaggerating the threat of a rising China. For Li, enhanced people- to-people exchange will help reduce misunderstanding of China among the U.S. public.
In summary, China and the United States should and could let cooperation prevail over confrontation and build an unprecedented new model of relationship between great powers, which will benefit the two peoples and the world at large.
