(KGTV) — Neighbors in North County call this "Taking Back Oceanside.""We need to cite, we need to ticket, arrest when possible," said Andrew Andrioff. It's a response to a growing homeless population that's leaving neighbors frightened and frustrated. The San Luis Rey riverbed is covered with needles, tents, trash and shopping carts. Andrioff is behind the movement to change that. "we don’t want to enable these people to continue to their criminal and drug-addicted lives."Councilwoman Esther Sanchez says the city has three homeless outreach teams but they need more help. "This really is a regional problem, whatever one city does everyone is going to want to go there so we all have to go at the same time," said Sanchez. The problem has only gotten worse since the city is forced to take in more people than it can handle. "Are we going to really be responsible for Orange County cities that are cleaning out the river and giving them one-way tickets to Oceanside?" said Sanchez. "I really think what we should be pushing is a blue ribbon committee, the county, the 18 cities, as well as the state."Recommendations made to the council tonight included declaring an Emergency Shelter Crisis and increasing police enforcement. The Taking Back Oceanside group is set to meet with the chief of police on October 24.  1750

(KGTV) - A nonprofit stopped in San Diego Thursday to thank veterans, 1,000 feet in the sky.The Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation travels the country with their Boeing Stearman PT-17 biplane, an aircraft used for training during World War II.“In that plane, they’re 19, hot, and they’re rocking it!" said volunteer Lynn Sommars. "They come back and remember the person that’s been put away for some time.”Lynn's husband Mike also volunteers for the organization as a pilot.On Thursday Mike flew eight veterans who live at La Costa Glen, a senior living community in Carlsbad.One of the veterans they flew was Lloyd Anna, who logged nearly 5,000 flight miles during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.“Oh man, I was in heaven, close to it anyway!" (AP) — Facebook says it has prepared new safeguards for the 2020 U.S. elections.The social media giant says the changes will help it better prepare to deal with candidates who prematurely declare victory or contest official results, as well as the possibility of voter intimidation by alleged — and potentially armed — “poll watchers.”It's also removing calls for people to “watch” polling places if the apparent goal to intimidate voters and election officials.The company will also halt all political advertisements once polls close on Nov. 3. NYE COUNTY, Nevada — Famed Love Ranch brother owner and GOP Assembly candidate Dennis Hof has died.The Nye County Sheriff's Office confirmed Hof's death Tuesday morning at the Love Ranch in Crystal, outside of Pahrump. Detectives and deputies are currently on scene and conducting an investigation into his death. Hof was 72 years old. His cause of death is unknown at this time.  Hof's campaign manager Chuck Muth first tweeted about his death.  489
