SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Three thieves, one armed with a gun, assaulted a man Monday during a pre-dawn home-invasion robbery in a Bay Terraces-area neighborhood. The victim spotted the trio of burglars inside the house in the 7100 block of Terra Cotta Road about 3:30 a.m., according to San Diego police. One of the intruders pointed a gun at the man while demanding valuables along with his cohorts, Officer Frank Cali said. During the confrontation, at least one of the robbers hit the victim with an unidentified object. After gathering property from inside the residence, the thieves fled in a stolen maroon 2011 Toyota RAV4, California license No. 6UJW830. The victim described the burglars as teenage boys or young men in their late teens or early 20s, dressed in dark clothing. No serious injuries were reported. 820

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A frustrated neighborhood in Sabre Springs is preparing to fight back amid a string of car break-ins.Bill Powers owns a townhouse just off Poway Road where Sabre Springs meets Poway. A year ago, he says the reports on social media of car prowlers started to climb."Anger and frustration that it's happening right on my back doorstep," said Powers.An idea was born from that frustration.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhood"I think the use of a bait car would be really helpful," said Powers.He recently proposed the idea online and almost immediately, someone already volunteered their old car.Powers says the bait will be something like a used laptop, placed in plain view.  He'll pitch in some of the cameras, including GoPro cameras, to be mounted on homes and windows."Our goal is to get decent footage of the act and share it with proper authorities," said Powers.Powers is also looking for help."I have volunteers but definitely need more," said Powers.He's hoping for neighbors willing to take a shift watching the car. Powers tells 10News the volunteers will be following an "Observe and Report" to police or deputies protocol. Powers hopes to have the bait car up and running in the next few months. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 25-year-old was arrested Wednesday following an officer-involved shooting sparked by a chase late Saturday night. According to police, Alfonso Flores, 25, was arrested and charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, one count of evading and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle. Officers tried to pull over a Ford F-150 that was reported stolen around 10:30 p.m. Saturday on the 1900 block of Dairy Mart Road.Police say the driver didn’t stop, instead driving into a cul-de-sac, making a u-turn and driving toward officers.RELATED: Chase leads to officer-involved shooting in Imperial Beach“Believing his partner was going to be run over, one officer fired his service weapon to defend the other officer,” police said in a news release.At some point during the pursuit, police say Flores threw a handgun out of the truck.RELATED: One shot, killed at Linda Vista recreation centerThe suspect eventually stopped on the 1200 block of Holly Avenue in Imperial Beach and ran away from the scene with a female passenger.Police say the officer who fired at the suspect is a three-year veteran of the department. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A 4.9-magnitude earthquake and several smaller shakeups recorded in Imperial County on Wednesday were reportedly felt in San Diego County.The swarm of earthquakes was centered around the Westmorland area. While many of the smaller quakes were recorded between 2.5- and 3.7-magnitude, about 80 earthquakes measuring at least 2.5-magnitude were recorded between 4 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.The largest earthquake as of 5:45 p.m. registered at 4.9-magnitude, according to the agency's latest earthquakes map.Seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones tweeted that Wednesday's series of earthquakes was one of the largest swarms Imperial Valley has seen, adding that the area is historically active in swarms."The swarm happening now south of the Salton Sea, near Westmoreland is over 30 km south of the end of the San Andreas," Jones tweeted. "It is in the Brawley seismic zone, a common source of swarms. So far largest is M4.4. Too far from the San Andreas to change the probability of a quake on it." 1004
