VISTA (CNS) - Ex-NFL tight end Kellen Winslow II, who is awaiting trial on charges of raping two women in Encinitas and raping an unconscious teenage girl, is being held without bail on newly filed misdemeanor charges related to alleged lewd conduct with a 77-year-old woman at a Carlsbad gym.Winslow, who had been out of custody on million bail in connection with his felony case, is accused of touching himself and asking the woman if she liked it on Feb. 13, then groping her while she was in a hot tub at the same gym on Feb. 22, according to police and prosecutors. The 35-year-old son of former San Diego Chargers legend Kellen Winslow, who's being held at the Vista Detention Facility, pleaded not guilty Monday to a pair of lewd conduct counts and one count each of elder abuse and battery of an elder. He faces life in prison if convicted in the felony case, which involves allegations that he raped a 17-year-old girl in 2003 at a home in Scripps Ranch; lured a 54-year-old transient -- who was hitchhiking -- into his Hummer for a ride, then raped her on March 17, 2018; and that he raped a 59- year-old homeless woman on May 13, 2018, then threatened to kill her if she told anyone. He appeared in a Vista courtroom today on a defense motion to dismiss the felony complaint, in which he's charged with kidnapping, forcible rape and rape of an unconscious person. A judge denied the request with the exception of one kidnapping count, finding insufficient evidence that the victim was transported under force or fear prior to the alleged rape.Deputy District Attorney Dan Owens said that he will seek to have the misdemeanor counts consolidated into the main case during Winslow's next court hearing on March 29.Winslow II grew up in San Diego and attended the University of Miami. He played for four NFL teams between 2004 and 2013. 1852

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump and his allies are taking what appear to be increasingly frantic steps to subvert the results of the 2020 election, according to law scholars, including summoning state legislators to the White House as part of a longshot bid to overturn Joe Biden’s victory. Trump also has personally called local election officials in Michigan who are trying to rescind their certification votes in Michigan. His legal team has suggested that a judge order Pennsylvania to set aside the popular vote there. And his allies are pressuring county officials in Arizona to delay certifying vote tallies. During a press conference Thursday, the president's personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, who is working on the campaign's lawsuits, made accusations of voter fraud in a handful of states, and seemed to suggest officials in several big cities were working together. "It’s not a singular voter fraud in any one state. There is a pattern in several states," Giuliani said. "To any experienced prosecutor, it would suggest that there was a plan." However, he did not give any evidence or further details about what led him to believe there was a "plan," other than baseless statements that the cities had "a history of corruption."“It’s very concerning that some Republicans apparently can’t fathom the possibility that they legitimately lost this election,” said Joshua Douglas, a law professor at the University of Kentucky who researches and teaches election law.“We depend on democratic norms, including that the losers graciously accept defeat,” he said. “That seems to be breaking down.”Election law experts see this as the last, dying gasp of the Trump campaign and say there is no question Biden will walk into the Oval Office come January. 1774

VISTA (CNS) - A professional photographer who sexually assaulted four teenage girls during modeling sessions at a rented Carlsbad residence where he had set up a temporary studio was sentenced to 25 years in state prison Friday.Robert Koester, 52, pleaded guilty last month to 23 felonies related to raping and inappropriately touching the teens -- some of whom were drugged and unconscious during the abuse -- as well as creating child pornography of the girls.Koester also faces federal charges locally, as well as charges in his home state of Oregon, where he's accused of assaulting additional victims.RELATED: Modeling photographer pleads guilty to sex crimes against teenagersDeputy District Attorney Dan Owens said the investigations against Koester began with one of his local victims, identified in court only as Jane Doe 1, who came forward regarding the abuse and "put a stop" to his ongoing crimes. Based on her statements, Koester was arrested Nov. 13, 2018, in Carlsbad."The victims in this case showed extraordinary strength in coming forward and speaking out against this man who victimized them," according to Owens, who said the case has had "a tremendous impact on the victims who were involved in this case, not only them, but their families."Koester, who had been hired as a contract worker by Carlsbad-based Frank Model Management, raped and took nude photographs of the girls, whose ages ranged from 15 to 17 during the San Diego County incidents. The FBI has stated that some of his alleged criminal acts date back to 1994.RELATED: Modeling photographer working in Carlsbad arrested for sexual assaultAuthorities say he worked under the aliases "Bert Kay," "Rhake Winter" and "Qitooly."He's due to be transferred to San Diego federal custody to begin his federal case, which involves creation of child pornography regarding two of the victims in the state's case. Part of his plea agreement would have any sentence he receives federally run concurrently with his 25-year prison term.He then likely will be extradited to Yamhill County in Oregon to face additional state and federal prosecution there. 2132

WASHINGTON — The number of Americans seeking unemployment aid rose last week to 742,000, the first increase in five weeks and a sign that the resurgent viral outbreak is likely slowing the economy and forcing more companies to cut jobs. The Labor Department’s report Thursday showed that applications for benefits rose from 711,000 in the previous week. Claims had soared to 6.9 million in March when the pandemic first intensified. Before the pandemic, applications typically hovered about 225,000 a week. The economy’s modest recovery is increasingly at risk, with newly confirmed daily infections in the United States having exploded 80% over the past two weeks to the highest levels on record. 705

VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The San Diego Sheriff's Department is reviewing the actions of several deputies after a witness posted a controversial video on Facebook. The video shows two deputies walking a man in handcuffs just before they slam his head into a fence. Later in the video, they can be seen smacking another man in the head who is already down on the ground in handcuffs. The woman who shared the video on Facebook claims they deputies used excessive force and wants justice for the two men. A Sheriff's spokesman says the video was taken on Monday morning when deputies were responding to a domestic violence call at a Vista apartment complex. When deputies arrived the suspect was wielding a weapon and holding someone against their will, the spokesman said. During the arrest, other parties fought with the deputies. The spokesperson says the department is reviewing the body camera footage and the cell phone video.10News visited the scene of the arrests. Outside the complex, you can still see smashed plants.    1071
