OTTAWA – The coronavirus pandemic has complicated nearly every aspect of our lives, even the most intimate parts, like sex.It’s always important to practice safe sex to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, but now health officials say COVID-19 should be considered as well and precautions should be taken.Wednesday, Canada’s chief public health officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, issued a statement with tips on staying safe from the virus while engaging in sexual activities.“Sexual health is an important part of our overall health,” said Tam. “However, sex can be complicated in the time of COVID-19, especially for those without an intimate partner in their household or whose sexual partner is at higher risk for COVID-19.”If you choose to engage in an in-person sexual encounter with someone outside of your household or close contacts, Tam says to skip kissing and avoid face-to-face contact or closeness. She even went as far as suggesting using a mask that covers the nose and mouth.Tam says you can also reduce your risk by monitoring for COVID-19 symptoms and not having sex if someone is experiencing those symptoms.Tam also suggests limiting alcohol and drug use, so you and your partner are able to make safe decisions.Additionally, you should be aware if you or your partner may be at higher risk for more severe outcomes of COVID-19. That includes people with underlying medical conditions, those with compromised immune systems, and people living with obesity.“Current evidence indicates there is a very low likelihood of contracting the novel coronavirus through semen or vaginal fluids,” said Tam. “However, even if the people involved do not have symptoms, sexual activity with new partners does increase your risk of getting or passing COVID-19 through close contact, like kissing. Remember as with all social interactions, try to keep your number of close contacts low if possible.” 1919

OTAY MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - Eight border wall prototypes constructed in South San Diego County are in the process of being dismantled Wednesday, according to Customs and Border Protection officials. "At this point, we have learned a lot from them, but we don't necessarily have a purpose or use for them anymore, and we will be bringing them down," a CBP official told CNN. The prototypes, which stand 30 feet tall, are in the path of the secondary border fence project, a Border Patrol source told 10News. The Department of Homeland Security hired companies to build the prototypes, which were finished in October 2017. Over two months, Customs and Border Protection officials tested the walls using power tools, hand tools, and other methods. The CBP evaluated the prototypes to determine if anyone could get through by climbing or digging. PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – From China to Egypt and beyond, the halls of history span the globe.Yet, it’s been lonesome lately in those halls at some of the 35,000 museums across the country.“We, of course, wanted to reopen as soon as we could and safe a manner as we could,” said Melissa Smith, CEO of the Penn Museum in Philadelphia.It’s one of the few major museums to recently reopen to visitors, after coronavirus restrictions forced them to close their doors for months.“For the most part, it's business as usual with our exhibits,” Smith said.First, though, a task force of 35 museum employees needed to figure out what changes might be needed.“We had to look at a number of things,” Smith said.Among the changes: masks are a must, hand sanitizing stations are now located throughout the museum, clear partitions were installed to protect staff who interact with visitors and benches were marked off, so people can sit socially-distanced.Also, arrows now line the stairs and floors, carefully choreographing how visitors move through the exhibits.“They asked us to follow the arrows and it kind of was a different museum experience, but also I think very helpful, just because there wasn't any confusion,” said museum visitor Soheil Eshghi.There are a few other changes, too: some of the exhibits around the museum have touchscreens, so visitors can dig a little deeper into what’s on display and learn more. The museum is now giving out a disposable stylus to visitors, so they can safely use the touchscreens.Visitors said they don’t mind the changes and are just happy for the chance to come back.“I think that’s one of the things that I've been missing the most since all this shutdown started happening,” said Camille Lawhead, who was visiting the museum.Now, visitors no longer need to be missing it. 1813

Police are continuing to investigate an explosion outside an Episcopal church in southeast Texas.A package was detonated Thursday outside a building at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, the Beaumont Police Department said."We are very blessed that no one was injured," said Rev. POINT LOMA, Calif., (KGTV)— Rainy conditions did not deter thousands of people from participating in the Second Annual Walk Against Hate-San Diego. “I walk for peace and for equal rights for people,” a pre-teen participant said. Three thousand five hundred people joined the Anti-Defamation League’s biggest event of the year, walking to show that San Diego is no place for hate. “Especially in the aftermath of something that is so tragic happening to our community,” ADL-San Diego’s Director of Development, Lindsey Zipkin said. Still fresh in the minds of participants is the Poway Synagogue Shooting on April 27, 2019. Zipkin said there was a huge jump in registration, right after the tragedy.“It gives people a really great way to come together to support one another and to celebrate diversity and respect. And really show that this is really what San Diego is about. No place for hate and not that terrible things that just happened to us,” Zipkin said. 10News also spoke to 15-year-old Nadiv Meltzer, who said the incident opened up a serious dialogue at home. His father, Rabbi Scott Meltzer, talked to him about overcoming bias and hate. “I think it’s not ideal that we needed such as an exhibition of hate and violence to get people together, but I think it’s important that people do get together,” Meltzer said.
