WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Roses are red and Ken Lerman’s suit is too.If you see his bouquets, he has a message for you.The 55-year-old loves to love and he now uses roses to let people know it.There’s some pain behind Lerman’s purpose.His, “Roses for Change,” campaign began this summer after he and people across the country witnessed the fallout following the death of George Floyd while in police custody.“How can one human being do that to another human being, I was crying when I saw it,” says Lerman.Armed with roses and a message of love Lerman says he wanted to reach those most affected.“I gotta give this to all the African Americans, they’re hurting,” he tells WPTV.His message has since caught on both online and in Palm Beach County where he regularly shares love and roses to people of all colors. We caught up with Lerman with a hundred of his favorite flowers in hand at the Milagro Center in Delray BeachHigh Schooler, Dachinise Philbert, says, “I was surprised and I was like oh I love you too.”A lot of these teens say it’s been a while since they’ve heard those words directed at them and even longer since they’ve been given flowers.Philbert says, “It was kind of weird at first I was like roses? WEST PALM BEACH, Florida — An Ohio man who flew to Palm Beach County in order to smoke a joint with President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago ended up under arrest instead, according to a sheriff's office report.The report says 27-year-old Tyler Jon Marrone of Columbus, Ohio, arrived at Palm Beach International Airport on April 18, the same day the president was hosting?Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Palm Beach.Marrone said he found a credit card that he thought was a gift from God so: "I bought myself a plane ticket to Florida to go see the President," the report states.A detective investigating the case said Marrone intended to drive to Mar-a-Lago, walk in and talk to Mr. Trump about "the static and frequency feedback that I constantly hear emanating from my basement and from fans and in my head." He wanted to figure out what they are saying, the report noted.Marrone also admitted that he had been kicked out of the Supreme Court Building in Ohio as well as several courthouses, according to the report.It was decided that Marrone met criteria for the Baker Act, which allows for an individual to be involuntarily committed.An investigator said while checking Marrone's bag a white substance was discovered that later tested positive for methamphetamine. The sheriff's office charged Marrone with possession of a schedule II substance. 1400

With millions of Americans getting tested for COVID-19 every single day, some are struggling with long waits for results.But now, researchers say there’s a much easier and faster way to test for the virus, and its right under your nose.“You scratch it, smell it, and then you have a choice of these different windows and you pick which one,” said Derek Toomre, Ph.D., a professor at Yale University School of Medicine.Toomre is part of U-Smell-It, a team that created a scratch-and-sniff app to help determine if someone has COVID-19 all through the sense of smell.“It's going to see how good your sense of smell is and if you do really well, you’ll pass,” Toomre said. “And if you don’t, it will say, ‘hey, you got something up.’”Despite being less accurate than a COVID-19 diagnostic test, this product is much faster and less costly. With results available in less than a minute and the cards costing 50 cents a pop, scientists say this smell app could outperform traditional tests at a fraction of the price.“We’re all familiar with the idea of testing people for fever as a way of finding people who have COVID,” said Roy Parker, Ph.D. a biochemistry professor at the University of Colorado, Boulder. “But that hasn’t worked very well.”Parker says with only about 20% of people with COVID-19 getting a fever, compared to 80% of people with COVID-19 reporting a loss a smell, a smell test is a much better indicator of COVID-19 infection than a temperature check.“It would make a big difference because you would identify people who have COVID, but they have such mild symptoms that they don’t know it and they’re out walking around potentially infecting other people and their family,” Park said.While commercially available, U-Smell-It is now looking for emergency FDA approval with the goal of getting their scratch-and-sniff cards into people’s hands and under their noses as quick as possible.“I can see people saying, ‘hey, this is not serious,’ and that’s fine, don’t take it serious,” Toomre said. “Let’s just try to do it and see if it works.
