Burger King is offering one-cent Whoppers when you’re “at” McDonald’s during their “Whopper Detour” campaign. According to the restaurant chain, if you download the Burger King mobile app on your phone and drive to a McDonald’s store, you can get the discount from Tuesday until December 12, 2018. They say “at McDonald’s” means within 600 feet of one — no, McDonald’s isn’t going to service you a Burger King sandwich. Once you're on the app, you’ll be able to order a one-cent Whopper and pick it up at the nearest participating Burger King location. More information about the deal can be found on the app. 643
CAMERON PARISH, La. – Hurricane Laura made landfall along the Louisiana coast, specifically near the community of Cameron. Not much information has come out from there, in part because several of the roads that lead down there remain flooded. Highway 27, one of the main roads in and out of the communities of Creole and Cameron, is covered in water.A deputy with the sheriff’s office said they had not been able to return to their station in Cameron. They left Wednesday before the storm. The roads are barely passable there – in order to get to an elevated bridge on 27, drivers need to use a gravel shoulder between the main road and the waterway that runs next to it. About 12 miles from the shore, the road begins to flood. It can be a little deceiving here in coastal Louisiana because the coast is made up of bayous and marshes. Some people have taken it upon themselves to bring their personal boats in an attempt to get to some of those communities along the coast. The sheriff’s office said some people did ride out Hurricane Laura in some of those coastal communities, but communications have been spotty at best. As for the roads, the water will need to recede, before the recovery there can truly begin. 1220
Can someone in this election truly be undecided in this election? Sure they can. With less than 70 days to go until the election, undecided voters are poised to play a deciding role in whether President Donald Trump or Joe Biden is the president of the United States come the end of January. GEOGRAPHY MATTERSWhile undecided voters matter everywhere, they really matter in crucial counties in swing states. Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, is one example. In 2008 and 2012, this county, which encompasses towns like Wilkes-Barre, voted for President Barack Obama. In 2016, the county voted for Trump. Luzerne is one of three counties in Pennsylvania to have flipped like that. Political scientists refer to counties like these as "pivot counties." WHAT UNDECIDED VOTERS ARE SAYINGRobert Rinaldi is a school bus driver in the county. His lunch buddy, Gene, at D's Diner likes Trump but Rinaldi isn't sure. "I guess I’m hearing a lot of these negative stories and it’s confusing me," Rinaldi said. "Like for instance, this last one with his sister, a retired judge, she’s blasting the guy," Rinaldi said. Meanwhile, Rinaldi is unsure about Joe Biden. He is growing agitated Democrats repeatedly say he is from nearby Scranton. "It's starting to get old, I understand he used to live here but he's been gone for so long," Rinaldi said. Other customers are undecided for other reasons"I don’t think I’ll ever vote unless something drastic happens," Aubree Patronick, a mom said while eating a club sandwich. Patronick doesn't think she'll cast a vote in this year's election. She is tired of the noise and angry Facebook posts."I don’t need a thousand people coming at my comments," Patronick said. Then there is John Colon, who just left the Army. "I truly don’t know who the lesser of two evils is," Colon said, commenting about Biden and Trump. 1850
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — What looks like an asteroid may just be an old rocket from a failed moon-landing mission more than 50 years ago. The newly spotted object is expected to get nabbed by Earth's gravity and become a mini moon next month. NASA's leading asteroid expert thinks it is the upper rocket stage from a 1966 mission. Observations as the object draws closer should help nail its identity. He speculates the object is the Centaur stage from NASA's Surveyor 2 mission, dating back to 1966. It's expected to shoot back out into its own orbit around the sun next March. 589
CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) — The Dooley family woke up Wednesday morning to some deflated holiday joy outside their home on Highland Drive."A lot of sadness. It really broke our heart, " said homeowner Gavin Dooley.A check of the surveillance video revealed the culprit. Just before 3 a.m., a black SUV pulls up next to their home, as someone emerges from the passenger side and climbs over their four-foot gate. Moments later, the person throws himself onto a large inflatable of a Santa and his fish taco truck. The scrooge tore through their yard, destroying all of their giant Christmas inflatables."Must have had a good pop on the first one. Second one, he jumps on it twice," said Dooley. That inflatable was a 9-foot tall television, reflecting the images of a projector from the movie "A Christmas Story." The vandal then tackles the final inflatable, which sported North Pole penguins. The end result: 0 dollars worth of inflatables destroyed."Pretty unrepairable. Just like a balloon, they’re popped. There's a huge tear in them," said Dooley.Dooley, who has three children, says his youngest -- his 9-year-old son -- was the most distraught. Also dismayed, some neighbors who bring their toddler girl to see the inflatables every day. That morning, she was nearly in tears."She kept saying, 'Porque? Why? Why would they do this?'" said Dooley. It’s a question Dooley has asked himself. Why? And why at the end of a tough year when holiday cheer is so needed."We were hoping Christmas decorations would bring a lot of joy to people. This turns that joy into sadness," said Dooley.Dooley would like to put up some smaller inflatables but is worried they could also be targeted. The family has filed a police report. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Carlsbad Police at 760-931-2197. 1812
