China on Friday announced targeted measures to boost consumption, including improving the consumer market supply and speeding up the construction of the smart consumption ecosystem, in a move to foster steady growth in the economy amid the novel coronavirus outbreak.
China will also strengthen supervision, adjust the "intensity and tempo" of policies to stabilize market expectations, and create a neutral and moderate monetary environment for supply-side structural reforms and high-quality development, she added.
China may encourage investment in advanced manufacturing, such as aerospace, semiconductor, integrated circuits, and rail transportation equipment, to cushion falling growth of general manufacturing.
China will be the only major economy to achieve growth this year, according to the IMF's latest World Economic Outlook reports. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development also noted China is the only G20 country expected to see positive economic output this year.
China remains capable of attracting global investment this year, as foreign direct investment from nonfinancial sectors in the Chinese mainland grew 4 percent year-on-year to 87.57 billion yuan (.68 billion) in January, data from the Ministry of Commerce showed.
