is warning people about the red flags.Chelsea Earley almost fell for what she thinks is a scam after she read an email that popped up in her school inbox."Yeah because I was like 'oh it’s a job placement in student services, maybe it’s legit,' ” she said.It was enticing her with a 0 weekly paycheck if she kept up with their instructions. She put in her phone number and address and a week later she got a package in the mail. They opened it and found a check for ,355, plus detailed instructions that told her to deposit the check and then within 24 hours, buy two 0 Walmart gift cards, scratch off the back, take a picture and send it in so they can get their money back."I was like who is sending you a ,300 check? That’s insane. You’re 19 years old,” said Christy Bidgood, Earley’s mom.Her age falls in line with research from the Federal Trade Commission that say the highest number of fake check scam victims are people in their 20s because they don’t understand how checks work. The BBB says it can take a week or two for a check to bounce, yet banks typically release the money into the account sooner than that."Yeah I do have a lack of knowledge about checks so I think people that don’t understand checks, they are definitely going to fall for it,” Earley said. The BBB says be wary of a company that overpays an employee and then asks them for money to be wired elsewhere. They say no legitimate business would do this. The BBB doesn’t have record of the company’s business profile in their system, but they say at least seven other people have reported concerns through their 1598

making Saturday, July 13, Nathan Bedford Forrest Day in the state.Forrest was a Civil War Confederate General, slave trader and an early KKK leader."How can you be a person of humanity, how and then support that statue, support a day when he was the head of the KKK, how can you do that," said Jim Wohlgemuth, with Veterans for Peace. For two years, Wohlgemuth and Veterans for Peace have been pushing a petition to remove a bust of Forrest from the Tennessee Capitol. "To (declare Forrest Day) again, to honor Nathan Bedford Forrest again with a day is just saying, guess what, if you're a person of color we don't care about you," Wohlgemuth said.Nathan Bedford Forrest Day has been observed in the state for nearly 50 years. The proclamation is causing controversy among some Democrat members of Tennessee House of Representatives."This a reminder of the painful and hurtful of the crimes that were committed against black people," Rep. Vincent Dixie (D-Nashville) said.Dixie says like many others he didn't know July 13 was Nathan Bedford Forrest Day in Tennessee. Dixie says this was the wrong move on the Governor's part."Now you're signing a proclamation honoring the same people that fought to keep people that look like me, African Americans in slavery," Dixie said."Tennessee governors are required by statute to issue a series of proclamations each year, including Nathan Bedford Forrest Day. The proclamation that was issued complies with this obligation and is in keeping with prior years," said Laine Arnold, a spokesperson for Lee.Dixie says it's time to take a more in-depth look at the law."I plan on working with legislators to correct this issue; If the governor is sincere about really being the governor for all Tennesseans and not some Tennesseans then he would get behind me, and do the right thing," Dixie said. The proclamation is not limited to Lee. Tennessee law mandates that the Governor must issue proclamations for six state holidays each yea,r including days for Nathan Bedford Forrest and Robert E. Lee. It has been a state law since 1971.Tennessee Code Annotated 15-2-101. Additional special observance days. 2142
WOODSTOCK, Ga. – A 5-year-old boy with a brain condition took his first independent steps last weekend and a video of the precious moment is inspiring people across the globe.Camden Hanson’s mother, Mandy, tweeted the clip Saturday, “since we all could use a little happiness in our lives these days.” As of Friday morning, the video had garnered nearly 8 million views and more than 420,000 likes.Mandy says Camden has progressive cerebellar atrophy and is physically handicapped. When her son’s cerebellum doesn’t function properly, Mandy says daily tasks like forming words and balancing can be challenging.Mandy told the Today Show that doctors and therapists told her family that Camden would likely never walk independently. However, thanks to 10 therapy sessions a week, the little boy was able to prove them wrong with the walk through his living room in Woodstock, Georgia.Along with walking, speaking has also been a challenge for Camden. But with intensive therapy and a strong-willed attitude, Mandy says he has improved from using sounds to communicate to speaking in full sentences.Sadly, Mandy told Today that her son’s atrophy is getting worse and doctors haven’t been able to pinpoint a gene causing his condition. So, Mandy says Camden has joined the Undiagnosed Disease Network, a research study that works to provide families with more information about mysterious health conditions. This fall, Mandy says her son will start kindergarten in an inclusive classroom and the family hopes he’ll be comfortable with perhaps using only one crutch.Mandy says she never expected the video of Camden’s special moment to go viral, but she hopes the clip spreads awareness for her son’s rare genetic disease. 1724
