Evacuees who fled the Camp Fire in California are facing norovirus outbreaks in shelters. The Butte County Public Health Department said that 145 people have been sick with vomiting and/or diarrhea since the shelters opened to evacuees and 41 people were experiencing symptoms at four different shelters as of Wednesday evening.Twenty-five people have been to the hospital for medical support, the health department said in a statement."The number of sick people is increasing every day," the statement said.About 9,700 homes were destroyed and 141,000 acres burned in the fire. ENCINITAS (KGTV) -- The Encinitas Environmental Commission is considering a proposal to ban natural gas hookups in all new construction projects as a way to combat climate change.The plan, which will be heard by the commission again next month, was authored by environmental commissioner Jim Wang. Wang spearheaded the city’s bans on plastic bags and polystyrene containers, commonly known as styrofoam.“The problem is that methane is a much more potent global warming gas than CO2, it’s approximately 85 times as potent,” he said. “Even a small amount of natural gas causes a big problem with global warming.”RELATED: Encinitas proposes ban on gas-powered leaf blowersWang’s proposal would impact both residential and commercial construction, but would not affect existing buildings. In July, Berkley passed a ban on natural gas infrastructure in new construction that will take effect next year. "They need to do some traffic calming."Friday, a car lost control coming around a curve near the 4200 block of Manchester Avenue and crashed into a light pole. Two days before that, a pair of cars collided near the same spot.People who live nearby say speed on the road is a constant problem."People gun it. They really do," says Blanchard. "All these wannabe fast drivers, it's exciting for them to come through the curve."Blanchard had a car crash through her front yard a few years ago. They sent this statement from the City Manager's Office:“Based on the California Vehicle Code (CVC) and California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CA-MUTCD), an Engineering and Traffic Study (Speed Survey) was conducted in 2017 which showed the 85th percentile speed (the speed at or below which 85 percent of all vehicles are observed to travel under) on this roadway was 47 mph. As a result, the speed limit was set by the City at 40 mph which is the lowest speed limit legally allowed based on the results of the Speed Survey.
