DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) -- A Del Mar man is recovering at a La Jolla hospital after he was run over in an alley as he walked home from a bar. Ben Nelson's father, Bruce, said he got a call from investigators telling him his son had been hit and apparently dragged several feet. The driver took off without calling for help. Nelson was found at least an hour after the crash happened. Nelson suffered a broken pelvis, fibula, tibia and femur. Fortunately, he did not suffer any brain or spine injuries. There are surveillance cameras that point towards the alley, but Nelson's friends and families are hopeful whoever hurt their loved one is caught or turns themselves in. DENVER -- A Colorado man’s vacation in Hawaii took a terrible turn this week when he was attacked by a shark.Dylan McWilliams, 20, was bitten by a tiger shark while surfing in Hawaii.McWilliams received stitches and will be okay, but he could be named the most unluckiest – or luckiest –guy in Colorado.“Yeah, this isn’t my first time being bitten,” McWilliams told Denver7 over a FaceTime call. “Last summer I was attacked by a bear in Boulder. It dragged me out of my tent by my head.”Scripps Denver affiliate KMGH-TV spoke with McWilliams last summer following the attack. He received several scars on his head but ended up okay.“I fought off the bear as much as I could until it dropped me and let me go,” McWilliams said.Less than a year later, and McWilliams gets bitten by a Tiger Shark in Hawaii.“I felt something hit my leg, and I looked down and there was a lot of blood and I saw the shark underneath me,” McWilliams said. “I started swimming as fast as I could to shore.”McWilliams said the shark looked to be between six and eight feet long.But the bear and shark attacks haven't been the only two times he's had a dangerous encounter with wildlife.“When I was sixteen, I was in Utah and I was walking outside and thought I kicked a cactus and it ended up being a rattlesnake,” McWilliams said. “It bit me too.”Denver7 reporter Tomas Hoppough jokingly told McWilliams through the FaceTime call that he is a Colorado version of Steve Irwin – the Crocodile Hunter.“That’s funny you say that because Steve Irwin has been my hero since I was a kid,” McWilliams said. “I always wanted to be like him.”McWilliams will need to stay out of the water during his vacation as his wound heals, but said he will be okay.“I don’t know if I’m unlucky, or really lucky,” McWilliams said. “But my dad said I need to buy a lottery ticket or something.” 1875

DENVER – A natural gas explosion caused at least one building to partially collapse Tuesday in Denver, injuring nine people. Simon Crittle, a spokesperson for Denver Health Medical Center, said two people were transported to the hospital by ambulance after the explosion and collapse. One of the people suffered traumatic injuries in the explosion. The other person was stable Tuesday afternoon.Crittle said that several other people were being treated at the scene of the explosion and collapse and that first responders were looking for other possible victims.Denver Fire Captain Greg Pixley said the explosion was reported at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and said several buildings were damaged in the area. One person who had been trapped was rescued by firefighters.Pixley said that crews were working to put out an active fire at the scene in addition to working to reduce the chance of other explosions in the area and further collapses. He said there were no reported deaths as of 2:10 p.m.An Xcel Energy spokeswoman on scene said all of the company equipment is intact up to the meters, meaning the explosion was likely caused by a customer. Xcel is working to turn off gas remotely. The spokeswoman said the company has a distribution site at Lipan Street and Santa Fe Drive and staff at that location said they felt the explosion.Eileen Andrews, who owns the nearby Baker Neighborhood Market, said she saw a man run from the wreckage of the explosion who had his clothes blown almost entirely off his body and that the man suffered burns."I mean everything was exposed -- he barely had a couple strings left of his pants. He was completely exposed and said he didn't know what happened," she said. "It was just like the biggest, loudest boom I've ever heard."She said some men who had been working on her business' HVAC system ran over to help the man and another trapped woman.Another neighbor, Edward Scott, said he was on the phone with his insurance company at his nearby home when the explosion happened."[The insurance agent] was on the phone with me going, 'What happened, what happened?' and I said, 'I don't know, I think my house just blew up,'" Scott said.He said he was hit by wood debris from the explosion and that the shockwave from the blast was so intense he thought his own home had exploded. When he realized it was another home across the street, he said he walked over to the scene and saw a person rescued from the rubble."It was two people ... a lady. And then this guy picked her up and firemen carried her out of the house," Scott said. "And then the other one ... and they were boyfriend-girlfriend and they were both bartenders and they were sleeping."Scott said the woman had been looking for her cat, which was missing, but which was later discovered alive at the scene. 2827

(AP) — A Connecticut town's officials are showing comedian John Oliver what they think about his expletive-filled rant about their city — they're naming the local sewage treatment plant after him.Mayor Mark Boughton announced the tongue-in-cheek move in a video posted on his Facebook page on Saturday."We are going to rename it the John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant," Boughton said in the video while standing in front of the sewage plant. "Why?
