EL CAJON (CNS) - A man suspected of killing his husband at their Mount Helix home pleaded not guilty Friday to a murder charge.Daniel Scott Jordan, 45, is accused in the slaying of 38-year-old Kevin Powell, a Chula Vista city employee whose body was found in the couple's Carmen Drive residence on Aug. 11.Chula Vista police found Powell's body while conducting a welfare check, sheriff's Lt. Thomas Seiver said. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A man accused of a hit-and-run crash on Highway 57 in Ramona pleaded not guilty Thursday. A judge set the bail at million for Chase Richard. Richard is accused of swerving into Michelle Scott and driving with her bicycle attached to his car for more than two miles during Tuesday’s crash. In court Thursday, prosecutors said Richard removed the front hood and bumper and spray-painted the rear of his Ford Edge. Investigators said Richard appeared to be making a run for it when they arrived. He had a large suitcase and backpack in a running vehicle when he was arrested. Richard faces up to nine years in prison if convicted. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - Over the course of the Pandemic, sisters Berlin and Bristol Dixon kept their favorite extra-curricular activity going strong. The two created "East County Kids News" as a way to keep doing school news, even while school was canceled.When in-person learning resumed in the fall, the girls went their separate ways, with Berlin going to Los Coches Creek Middle School and Bristol at WD Hall Elementary. But they took what they learned from EC Kids News and used it to make their school newscasts better."I feel like we have a lot more resources," says Berlin. "We learned how to work with computers a lot more ever break. So, when we returned, we knew a lot more about iMovie and all the stuff you need to know for broadcast."But, beyond the technical improvements they brought back to campus, the girls say they learned how important their work had been to keep the community together."I have learned that kids are resilient and they can go above and beyond," says Bristol. "And that when you want something you can go for it.""It's really taught us how amazing our community is," says Berlin. "Also that it's really important to stay connected with everyone, because it has been a rough time but when we connect it makes that rough time not as hard."Their efforts have impressed teachers at both schools."For them to find the silver lining in the cloud is is inspiring to to everyone," says Laura Albright, a teacher at WD Hall. "You always set your expectation high for your students, but they totally surpassed anything we could think of."The only downside to returning to campus is losing the chance to co-anchor as sisters. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A chain reaction crash on SR-125 in East County sent two drivers to the hospital Monday.A 25-year-old woman driving a Hyundai failed to stop in time to avoid hitting a Toyota Camry at the Grossmont Center Dr. exit at 9:10 a.m., CHP Officer Kevin Pearlstein said.The Hyundai rear-ended the Camry, pushing the Camry into oncoming traffic on SR-125.A Chevy Impala driver on the freeway did not have time to react and struck the driver’s side of the Camry, officers said.Officers had to pull the Camry’s driver, a 23-year-old woman, from her vehicle. She was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital with moderate to major injuries.The driver of the Impala had moderate injuries.The Hyundai’s driver, a 49-year-old woman, was not hurt.CHP officers do not suspect drugs and alcohol as factors in the crash. 832
