POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) - He's got sticky fingers and a green thumb. A business owner says his Poway office has been repeatedly burglarized by a thief who steals plants, among other things.The man snatched succulents and pilfered a large plumeria in his latest visit to the Poway business on Adrian Street near Midland Road on Wednesday around 11:30 p.m., according to owner Tom Belway.The grab-and-go gardener also disabled a surveillance camera and removed sensor lights, he said."This is the sixth or seventh time they have swept the property for any 'loose' items," Belway wrote on social media. "Previously they stole propane tanks, rocking chairs, construction materials and plants. One visit they had all of our outdoor furniture staged at the fence but they must have been interrupted."Down the street at the Park Church on Midland Road, pastor Andrew Henneforth said his church has been hit twice over the past two weeks.He said in the first incident, someone broke into a camper trailer and stole landscaping equipment and propane tanks.The second time, the thief hopped a fence and took a bicycle. There was a skateboard and drugs left behind, the pastor said."In this situation, am I a victim? Sure," Henneforth said. "But in some ways he's kind of a victim as well -- to addiction, to substance abuse."The church added security cameras after the second incident, he said.It's not clear if the two cases are related. (KGTV) - Poway Unified School District is launching a pilot program in an attempt to take an innovative approach to special education, bringing children with learning disabilties together with the general education population."We know, as students of history, separate has never been equal," Associate Superintendent Greg Mizel said in an interview with 10News. "So the more that we mix up our kids, the better for all children."The program is being tried in three schools: Monterey Ridge Elementary in 4S Ranch, Twin Peaks Middle in Poway, and Mt. Carmel in Rancho Pe?asquitos. All students who are in the special education program will have regular classes with students from the general education population. Those classes will have two teachers, one from special ed and one from general ed. That means all children will have more academic support, while there always be someone trained to give the special needs students the additional care they need.Thus far, teachers and administrators say the program has been a big success, with special education students thriving on the increased socialization and higher academic standards, and the general education students getting additional attention in the classroom and the chance to increase empathy working with differently abled students.Staff at seven other PUSD schools are currently going through training in anticipation of the program being expanded next school year. 1448

Police arrested a Gilbert, Arizona man accused of stealing nearly ,000 worth of items from Home Depot. Chandler (Arizona) Police report that from February 2012 to February 2018, Antoine Elkik, 57, made nearly ,000 by stealing goods from Home Depot stores in Maricopa County. Police say Elkik would legitimately purchase products, put them in his car, then immediately go back to the store with his receipt and select the same products and exit the store. If he were questioned, he would show the sales associate the receipt from the prior purchase. He would later, reportedly, return the stolen products to the store for a refund. Police say he purchased 402 items since 2012, returning all of them for refunds. Home Depot Organized Crime Investigators said, "Antoine was identified through analytical reporting in which he was showing a high amount of refunds." He was arrested on March 27 and has been charged with 30 counts of retail theft. 997

(KGTV) - The Poway Unified School District Board of the Education unanimously passed an anti-racism resolution at their virtual meeting Thursday.“In this resolution, the Poway Unified School District makes a commitment to really looking at diverse curriculum, and representing diverse points of view, as well as committing to hiring diverse staff,” PUSD Chief Communications Officer Christine Paik said.“(The district) will also look at anti-racist and anti-bias training. We want to expand it to all of our staff members and students,” Paik added.The resolution comes after an Instagram page called “Black in PUSD” was recently created.
