SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police are looking for the driver that hit and killed a man in Chollas Creek early Friday morning.SDPD officers say it happened around 1 a.m. on Chollas Parkway. The man was either standing or walking in the street when a speeding car hit him.The victim died at the scene, police confirmed.Police do not have a description of the car but say it was a racer-type vehicle with a loud muffler. It was last seen driving southbound on 54th Street.SDPD's Traffic Division is investigating the crash. 531

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County health officials have warned at least three local churches about having services indoors. The county sent out three letters to Skyline Church in La Mesa; Lighthouse Baptist Church in Lemon Grove; and Awaken Church's campus on Balboa Avenue in Kearny Mesa.The letters to Skyline and Lighthouse were very similar, saying indoor services create "significant risk of spreading COVID-19," encouraging the churches to move their in-person services outside. The third document is a cease-and-desist letter sent to Awaken Church ordering the church to stop indoor operations. All three letters are dated July 17 and are signed by County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten. The letters state that failure to comply with these orders can mean criminal misdemeanor citations with a fine of ,000 for each violation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County Vector Control officials reported new signs Friday of the potentially dangerous disease tularemia on a trail in Sorrento Valley.Several batches of ticks trapped along Lopez Canyon Trail tested positive for the disease, also known as rabbit fever.The first group of ticks with the disease appeared last week, officials said.County officials posted warning signs for hikers. Vector Control will also expand tick trapping in the area.The best way for people to protect themselves from tick bites include insect repellent for humans and pets, and long-sleeved shirts and pants.Tularemia can be treated with antibiotics but it can be fatal. 679

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Convention Center opened its doors Wednesday as a temporary shelter for homeless individuals during the coronavirus pandemic.Starting with groups from San Diego's bridge shelters, the center will house homeless individuals to help protect them from the coronavirus and continue providing them shelter.
