WASHINGTON COUNTY, Minn. -- Authorities in Minnesota have charged former police officer Derek Chauvin and his estranged wife, Kellie, with multiple counts of felony tax evasion.Chauvin has been thrust into the spotlight after a cell phone video showed the officer arresting George Floyd and pinning him down with a knee to his neck. That caused Floyd to lose consciousness and the 46-year-old man was later pronounced dead.Floyd's death caused protests across the country demanding action against police brutality.Documents from the Minnesota Department of Revenue show investigators started building their case in June. Documents show the couple did not file their tax returns for 2016, 2017 and 2018. The Chauvins' 2014 and 2015 returns show they did not accurately file taxes.Records account for incidents that led to these charges, like Derek not reporting or overestimating money made as security detail for stores and bars around town, and Kellie not reporting her income from her photography business.Prosecutors say they bought a BMW for more than 0,000 and registered it with their Windemere, Florida address. They showed up to the dealership with Florida driver's licenses. They avoided nearly 0 in fees by paying Florida taxes instead of Minnesota taxes. During an interview with investigators, Kellie told them it was cheaper to register the vehicle in Florida than Minnesota. When asked by investigators why she didn't file returns, Kellie said "it got away from her."According to authorities, they under-reported their income by more than 4,000. Between the taxes the Chauvins owe -- the late payment and penalty fees, fraud penalties, and interest -- the couple owes the state government nearly ,000.Scripps station WFTS in Tampa previously reported that questions had been raised about Chauvin's voting record, after records show him voting in Orange County in-person in 2016 and 2018. He did not claim homestead on his Windemere property, but did claim the tax break on his home in Oakdale, Minnesota in 2018. I’ve been reluctant to put my feelings into words. My brain refuses to accept that both Kobe and Gigi are gone. I can’t process both at the same time. It’s like I’m trying to process Kobe being gone but my body refuses to accept my Gigi will never come back to me. It feels wrong. Why should I be able to wake up another day when my baby girl isn’t being able to have that opportunity?! I’m so mad. She had so much life to live. Then I realize I need to be strong and be here for my 3 daughters. Mad I’m not with Kobe and Gigi but thankful I’m here with Natalia, Bianka and Capri. I know what I’m feeling is normal. It’s part of the grieving process. I just wanted to share in case there’s anyone out there that’s experienced a loss like this. God I wish they were here and this nightmare would be over. Praying for all of the victims of this horrible tragedy. Please continue to pray for all. 909

President Donald Trump has arrived in Phoenix for a "Latinos for Trump" roundtable. The roundtable will take place at The Arizona Grand Resort Monday at around 3 p.m. The event page originally stated it was supposed to begin at 11 a.m., but the event was rescheduled Saturday afternoon. RELATED: ABC15's exclusive interview with President Donald TrumpTrump last visited Phoenix in June, where spoke at a "Students for Trump" event in north Phoenix. Vice President Mike Pence will be participating in multiple events in Phoenix Friday as well, according to White House officials. Both the Trump and Biden campaigns are increasing their outreach to Latino voters, who now make up the largest minority group in the U.S. and represent 24% of all eligible Arizona voters, according to the Pew Research Center. The Arizona Republican Party said Sunday, thanks to three community centers in Phoenix, Tucson and Yuma in Latino neighborhoods, the GOP has been able to connect with countless voters through a volunteer team of more than 1,100 people.Pam Kirby, who serves on the Latinos for Trump advisory board, told ABC15 their message is getting through to voters who have historically voted for Democrats. She believes Trump's platform aligns with those voters' values of faith, family and freedom along with job and economic security."Latinos are getting back to work and they felt money in their back pockets pre-coronavirus, and post-coronavirus we're already starting to see the 'great American comeback,'" she told ABC15 on Sunday.Still, Congressman Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) sees a different result, calling Trump "the worst President when it comes to Latinos in the history of Arizona.""We have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 due to this President's handling," he said. "Small businesses, small Latino businesses, have been shuttered because the President did not handle the coronavirus correctly." This story was first reported by KNXV in Phoenix, Arizona. 2058
Harvey Weinstein is currently being treated for a fever and being closely monitored at the correction facility in Western New York where he's serving a 23-year prison sentence for rape and sexual assault, representatives for the disgraced movie mogul said Tuesday. Both his publicist and Weinstein's rep from the New York State Department of Corrections said they could "neither confirm nor deny" that Weinstein has tested positive for COVID-19. "We can confirm that Mr. Weinstein has a fever and is being closely monitored by the excellent medical staff at Wende CF, for which the entire legal defense team is grateful," his reps said in a statement. It was confirmed that Weinstein had initially tested positive for coronavirus back in late March. Weinstein suffers from multiple medical problems, the statement said. "It should come as no surprise that Mr Weinstein has numerous maladies and conditions, including a heart condition, high blood pressure and spinal stenosis. We are working with the NYSDOCCS and the excellent team at Wende CF to ensure Mr. Weinstein receives the proper medical attention he needs." Back when he was first confirmed COVID-19 positive, Weinstein’s lawyers said he was also dealing with the ramifications of unsuccessful back surgery stemming from a car crash last summer and a condition that requires shots in his eyes so he does not go blind.Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years on rape and criminal sex act charges. Officials had said Weinstein faced a minimum of five years in prison and a maximum of 25 years in prison on the first-degree criminal sex act count, and a maximum penalty of four years in prison for third-degree rape.He was found not guilty of three other charges, including two counts of predatory sexual assault, which carried a potential life sentence. The allegations against Weinstein spawned the #MeToo movement. His trial is seen as a landmark moment for the cause. This is not the first time Weinstein has required medical treatment during his sentence. While still being held in New York City, he was taken to Bellevue Hospital for heart palpitations and high blood pressure. He later returned to Bellevue for what was termed "chest pains."
