SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Port of San Diego will begin its first over water testing of lighting on the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge, as the Port continues efforts to install lighting across a portion of the bridge.The testing will start on Sunday, Nov. 8, and continue to Saturday, Nov. 14, from 6:15 p.m. to midnight.The testing will include 170 computer-programmed LED lights and controllers temporarily installed on three of the bridge's tallest columns near the center of the structure. Each night, a live technical test will be conducted in different colors, combinations, sequencing, and arrangements."This bridge lighting test provides San Diego a unique opportunity to see what’s possible and how the infusion of technology and art can make people feel connected to, and inspired by, our beautiful waterfront," said Commissioner Marshall Merrifield, Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners. "Our goal is to ignite the imaginations of every person in the San Diego region, and after years of dedicated time to the project, bring forward a viable, beautiful addition to the nighttime skyline."The testing will see periods of darkness as other aspects are being tested, so the lighting won't be constant illuminated.The upcoming testing is the second test of the project. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The wife of Cal Fire San Diego fire engineer Cory Iverson spoke to 10News about her life following her husband's death while he battled the Thomas Fire last year.Cory Iverson died December 14th battling the Thomas Fire in Ventura County.  The 32-year-old fire apparatus engineer died after he getting caught in a swarm of spot fires in the Fillmore area.He leaves behind his wife Ashley, their 3 year old daughter Evie, and baby Taylor, due in May.Ashley Iverson described her life following her husband's death as the "most horrible and wonderful and terrible and amazing" experience she's ever endured."It's ceaseless," Iverson said of the outpouring of support following her husband's death. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents about drinking and driving ahead of the busy Fourth of July holiday weekend.The department says it will be conducting increased DUI patrols on Saturday, July 4 and over the course of the weekend.The department also plans to hold an impaired driving checkpoint in North County Friday night.Last year, deputies arrested more than 1,300 people for impaired driving. So far in 2020, 387 drivers have been arrested for driving under the influence, the department says. "No one should ever drive under the influence," said Sheriff Bill Gore. "Throughout the pandemic, deputies have continued to enforce impaired driving laws. Don't drink and drive." 734

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Three of the four American tourists killed in a helicopter crash in Kenya on Sunday night were from San Diego.Coronado Mayor Richard Bailey told 10News David Baker, a Coronado resident, was killed in the crash. The US Embassy identified Brandon Stapper and Asher Burke, who also lived in San Diego, as victims earlier in the day Monday. They were riding in a helicopter that crashed in the Central Island National Park in Lake Turkana on country's northern border at 8:35 p.m. Sunday (2:35 a.m. ET), Kenya's Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement posted on its website."A rescue team was dispatched immediately and they arrived at the Central Island at around 11:20 p.m. and located the wreckage at 3:20 a.m. with no survivors," Kenya's aviation chief Gilbert Kibe said.READ: Pilot, 4 Americans killed in helicopter crash in KenyaStaff at Stapper's graphics company near Mission Hills told 10News that they learned Sunday evening the self-made entrepreneur was killed in the accident.
