But what about a place to go before it reaches that level? “People may not even know what the problem is but they know that something isn’t quite right so if they call a ‘warmline’ they're going to get somebody on the other end who is nonjudgmental who will listen to them in a way that maybe family or friends aren’t able to,” says Tom Hill with the National Council for Behavioral Health. So what is a "warmline”? Think of it as a pre-crisis call if you're having a problem or just feeling off. Some people may find themselves feeling especially off amid the holiday season. Someone on the other end of the line can provide emotional support. They can also connect you to a peer coach or support group, a mental health agency or general resources that can help with everyday life. Warmlines are helpful for those living in rural areas. A 14-hour Congressional hearing ended around 11:20 p.m. on Thursday as Judiciary Chair Jerry Nadler shocked his Republican colleagues by not calling for a vote on articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. Nadler instead announced at the end of the hearing that he would reconvene the committee at 10 a.m. on Friday. The Republicans' ranking member on the committee, Rep. Doug Collins, called the move a "kangaroo court," as other GOP members compared Nadler to Joseph Stalin. Collins told CNN that the move to delay the vote was “the must bush league stunt I’ve ever seen in my entire life.”The hearing came to an end after the Republicans put forth five amendments to the Democrats' impeachment resolution. The coveted crash test ratings for vehicles are in desperate need of an update, according to multiple auto safety groups. The system hasn't been updated since 2010. Right now, 98% of all vehicles get four or five stars. “It’s the equivalent of Halloween — everyone gets candy,” says Jason Levine with the Center for Auto Safety. “The idea is supposed to be separating between things that are safe and things that are really safe.” Levine says the tests are too easy to pass and they don't help consumers understand the difference between cars.Some recommendations include updating the ratings by testing new technology that helps drivers avoid crashes, like emergency automatic braking, and accounting for how passengers in the rear seats are impacted Experts also recommend testing systems that help avoid hitting pedestrians. This type of testing already exists, it just hasn't been mandated in the U.S. “NHSTA, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, has dragged its feet on renewing these ratings for almost a decade now,” Levine says. “They said they were going to update them in 2015. They didn't. They said they were going to update them in 2018 and they didn't.
