BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Monday started its first reading of a draft amendment to the Environmental Protection Law.
A new driver surnamed Chen in Nanning, capital of Guangxi, said he managed to obtain a license after receiving training for no more than ten hours before the holiday. This was to avoid a new policy that will require 55 hours of training for the same license.
The provincial government has sent rescue teams to the county, searching for the 16 missing. About 6,500 local residents were relocated to escape possible geological hazards triggered by the heavy rains, headquarters said.
Although oil consumption has remained weak amid a global economic slump, export bans on Iranian oil and intensifying conflicts in the oil-rich Middle East have driven up crude prices over the past month, analysts said.
The NCDR has called for thorough safety checks in harbors, low-lying areas, mountainous regions, construction sites, schools and tourist attractions and asked local authorities to prepare shelters in case residents need to be relocated.
