(AP) — Wells Fargo has agreed to pay at least 5 million to settle a California lawsuit alleging it signed up thousands of auto loan customers for costly car insurance without their consent, resulting in many having their vehicles repossessed.The bank filed the agreement Thursday in a federal court in Santa Ana. The bank's statement said that it will be sending checks to affected customers.The 2017 class-action lawsuit alleged that for more than a decade, Wells Fargo tacked on insurance to customers' car loans that they didn't need because they had private insurance.Some 25,000 car owners couldn't meet the additional fees and had their vehicles repossessed, the suit alleged.The bank acknowledged in 2017 that million in unnecessary insurance charges had been added to 800,000 auto loans.It's one in a series of scandals involving the banking giant, starting in 2016 with the uncovering of millions of fake checking accounts its employees opened to meet sales quotas.That led to the resignation of CEO John Stumpf. Last year, the Federal Reserve capped the size of Wells Fargo's assets, and Stumpf's replacement, Tim Sloan stepped down in March. New improprieties had come to light on his watch, including the auto loan issues.Federal regulators who lost patience with Wells Fargo's continued bad behavior inflicted harsh punishments. Wells had to pay a billion fine last year to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Scientists and doctors are watching closely as some children head back to school with in-person learning. Many are hoping extra precautions will keep students safe. But there are big questions surrounding the safety of lunchtime."If you’re doing all the right things, masking kids, keeping them distanced and washing hands, you are going to decrease your chance of transmission. But if they take masks off and they're indoors in close proximity, you’ve sort of derailed your entire plan because lunchtime is the most high-risk time to transmit COVID-19 or any illness," says Dr. Tanya Altmann, a pediatrician with the American Academy of Pediatrics.Dr. Altmann says it's important during lunchtime, that children are at least six feet apart and not facing each other."I would recommend that in any area around the country where you can eat lunch outdoors, to eat lunch outdoors because that is safer," says Dr. Altmann.Dr. Jay Varkey, the hospital epidemiologist at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, agrees that school administrators should have students eat outside, when weather permits."You can’t wear a mask and eat a lunch. Depending on the age of the children, I don’t think a lot of school-age children are maybe the most diligent in terms of washing their hands before and after a meal. So, I do think it’s a potentially high-risk area," says Dr. Varkey.Dr. Varkey adds, the same goes with school employees who may be heading to a teacher's lounge for lunch or a cup of coffee. Those school spaces need to be recreated to allow for more social distancing."First and foremost, it goes back to what metrics you need to open up schools. As much as I am a believer in in-person learning and the benefits of it, the reality is, in order to open safely you have to have control of COVID-19 transmission in the community," says Dr. Varkey.As public health officials work to battle COVID-19 in their communities, Dr. Altmann recommends schools reimagine spaces on their campuses.Dr. Altmann says, “You could maybe repurpose your library as a teacher break room. You could use the auditorium as a lunch space or even the gym since we’re not going to be having contact sports."Dr. Altmann says children eating lunch inside their classrooms is also okay, as long as no desks are facing each other. (CNS) - Authorities asked for the public's help in finding the driver of a minivan suspected of following a nine-year-old boy along a street in Santee and trying to entice him to get into the van.The boy told San Diego County Sheriff's Department deputies he was walking alone on Trailridge Avenue, between Hightail Drive and Weston Road, about 5 p.m. Wednesday when the driver asked him to get into the van and go to a community pool with him. The boy refused and walked away and the driver left the area, according to Sgt. Joseph Jarjura.The driver was described as a white man, between 18-20 years old with short black hair, wearing a light-colored T-shirt, Jarjura said, adding a woman may have been in the passenger seat, but no description was available.The minivan was possibly a black Dodge Caravan with tinted windows and black rims.Anyone with information was asked to call the department at 858-565-5200. 938

(KGTV) - Surveillance pictures released Monday show two of the four people suspected of identity theft in East County.The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said a woman either lost her wallet or had it stolen at the Vons grocery store at 9643 Mission Gorge Road in Santee on January 20.The victim’s credit cards were used immediately by four suspects at several nearby stores including Buffalo Wild Wings, Home Depot, Walmart, Skechers, and Ross.Two of the suspects were identified and arrested but the other two are still wanted.One suspect is a white man in his 40’s, 6-feet tall with gray hair. He was last seen wearing a yellow and black plaid jacket and jeans.The other suspect is a white woman, about 40 years old, 5’6” and 230 pounds. She has burgundy or purple hair and wears glasses. (KGTV)— The border shutdown at the San Ysidro Port of Entry Sunday created a ripple effect for transportation and nearby businesses.Many people were stranded at the port crossing for five hours before Homeland Security reopened the lanes in the evening. Christmas shopping at the Las Americas Outlet Mall came to an abrupt stop for Maria Martinez. "The mall was closed. I couldn’t believe it. I saw everything.”Customs and Border Protection closed off the San Ysidro Port of Entry late Sunday morning. Then the California Highway Patrol blocked off both the 805 and 5 Freeways south of the 905 interchanges. American federal agents in full tactical gear lined up along the border, at times using tear gas and rubber bullets to deter migrants.  "Over there, there was smoke and the noise of the gun,” Martinez said. At this point, there are no reports of any of the migrants successfully crossing the border. Martinez said she saw federal agents turn them around. The bus depot next to the mall was also closed, leaving shoppers like Martinez stuck and not knowing when they could get home. "I don't know. I think it's going to close the border. When everything is in peace, they are going to open. What time?
