On Wednesday, reports surfaced that retailer Sears might file bankruptcy, which could force the closure of some, if not all, of the retailer's remaining 900 locations. Sears Watch Company in Minneapolis, advertising his company by mailing catalogs of his watches to businessmen.1887:  Sears moved his fledgling business to Chicago and expanded his mail-to-order business. 1895: After Richard W. Sears joined forces with Alvah Curtis Roebuck, the company quickly became a mail-to-order giant. By the mid-1890s, Sears had a 532-page catalog of items. According to the retailer, the 1895 catalog contained clothing, accessories, wagons, fishing tackle, stoves, furniture, china, musical instruments, saddles, firearms, buggies, bicycles, baby carriages and glassware. 1906: Not only was Sears expanding operations in Chicago, but it was also opening centers elsewhere, including in Dallas. The opening of a shipping operation in Dallas helped lower the cost of shipping for the retailer. 1913: The Kenmore brand launches, first as a line of sewing machines. In the 20s, Kenmore would launch a line of washing machines. It was not until the 70s when Kenmore expanded into refrigerators and air conditioners. 1927: The now mature, 40-year business was working in a different environment. America was starting to urbanize, as Americans started moving into city centers. This caused the explosion of chain stores throughout the US. In response, Sears opened its first retail store in 1925, showcasing items from the catalog. The store was such a success, Sears was able to open 26 more locations by 1927.  This was also the year the Craftsman line of tools launched. Although not manufactured by Sears, it was owned by Sears and sold at Sears stores and in catalogs. Sears would own exclusive rights to Craftsman tools until 2017, when it was sold to Black and Decker. 1931: For the first time in company history, the majority of Sears' revenue came from its retail stores. According to Sears, 53.4 percent of sales in 1931 were from its stores. By 1933, Sears opened 400 retail locations. 1941: As the United States entered into war, Sears' expansion of retail operations paused. At this point, Sears had opened 600 locations.1953: Sears resumes its growth not only in the United States, but it is also opening stores in Canada. 1973: Almost 90 years after moving to Chicago, Sears expands its operations into the Sears Tower, which is one of the tallest skyscrappers in the word. 1993: More than a decade after launching the Sears catalog, Sears ended production of the catalog, and instead shifted its focus on its brick and mortar locations, auto stores, and outlets. 2004: Kmart purchased Sears (then named the Sears Roebuck Co.) and merged the two brands into the Sears Holding Company. This briefly gave the company record profits in 2006. 2015: Sears announced that it has lost billion in the last four years. Eddie Lampert was brought in as CEO and gave the company a 0 million loan to help avoid bankruptcy. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A car reportedly flew off a freeway in North San Diego County, causing a chain reaction collision.A 20-year-old woman driving a Buick reportedly careened off westbound SR-78 near El Camino Real, through the fence separating the freeway from the Vista Way, and collided head-on with a Ford Thunderbird being driven by a 47-year-old woman traveling eastbound.The collision set off a chain reaction, sideswiping a Nissan van towing a small boat. The boat then came loose from its trailer and flew into the westbound lanes of Vista Way, striking a Toyota Prius, being driven by a 43-year-old man, and a Chrysler 300 being driven by a 95-year-old man.The driver and a male passenger in the Buick both sustained major injuries and were airlifted to Scripps La Jolla hospital. Another male passenger sitting in the back seat of the Buick received minor injuries and was taken to Palomar Medical Center.The driver of the Thunderbird was slightly injured as well, but not taken to a hospital. No other injuries were reported.Police are investigating what led to the Buick driving off the freeway, but said they do not suspect alcohol or drugs to have been a factor. 1216

(KGTV) — San Diego's Board of Supervisors voted to enter into an agreement with Tri-City Healthcare District to build a new psychiatric health facility in Oceanside.The county will contribute .4 million to build a 16-bed facility on a piece of vacant land at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside. Tri-City will operate the facility, but the county will lease the property, build the facility, and sublease the building to Tri-City.Tri-City Healthcare District closed its Behavioral Health Unit in 2018 over changes in federal regulations. Regulations required the hospital to remove all "ligature" risks from rooms, or features of rooms that patients could use to hand themselves. The hospital's "drop" ceilings also did not meet regulations. Replacing the ceilings alone would cost million.The hospital's behavioral health unit provides adult inpatient psychiatric services. The departure of those services have made filling emergency behavioral needs in North County increasingly challenging. Patients had to instead be taken to Palomar Hospital in Escondido or San Diego County Mental Health off of Rosecrans Street.Not only did it make emergency situations a longer drive for patients, but officers would be removed from their jurisdictions for 5 to 6 hours.“Getting Tri-City Health into the behavioral health business has been a top priority,” said Supervisor Jim Desmond, whose district includes the hospital. “The biggest winners are the residents of San Diego County, residents and families who count on and rely on the needed behavioral health services.”The facility could take up to three years to open. 1645

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — Three people were killed on Thursday after an SUV careened off State Route 78 and crashed into a traffic signal pole.A Mitsubishi Outlander was traveling on westbound SR-78 at about 2 p.m. when for unknown reasons it veered off the right side of the freeway near El Camino Real and went down an embankment. The SUV hit a fence and struck a pole at the intersection of Vista Way and Valley Glen Dr., before catching fire, according to CHP public-affairs Officer Mark Latulippe.CHP officers arrived within minutes to find three people trapped inside the vehicle. Latulippe said officers put out the small fire, adding that it appeared all three died on impact and not because of the fire.The driver was the only occupant wearing a seat belt during the collision.The driver was identified as a 43-year-old male from Escondido, the front passenger was identified as a 56-year-old male from Escondido, and the passenger in the left rear of the SUV is a female that is yet to be identified, CHP said.The San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office is working to determine if impairment was a factor in the crash. 1133
