CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Three Chula Vista teens are recovering after they were assaulted and robbed near Heritage Elementary School on Monday night. The teens are still on winter break. They tell 10News they were walking along Monarche Drive, on their way to get a slice of pizza, when four men pulled up next to them in a white car. The four men got out and assaulted them, getting away with their cell phones and wallets. One teen had to go to the emergency room to get a CAT scan and a x-ray to check for a wrist fracture. Chula Vista Police confirmed the incident to 10News. A lieutenant with the department says they were able to find the car and arrest the four suspects just hours later, two adult men and two male minors. When the suspects were located, officers found a total of 10 cell phones. Police are now working with other local agencies to find out if there are more victims. The two adults were taken to county jail. The minors were booked at juvenile hall. Anyone with information is asked to call Chula Vista Police. 1051

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A skate park that was once riddled with graffiti is getting a grand homecoming in the South Bay.The City of Chula Vista will hold a grand reopening of the Len Moore Skate Park on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with raffles, prizes., local vendors, live music, and demonstrations by skating pros.The Boys and Girls Club closed the park last August due to costly maintenance and repair issues. This led to the organization giving up the park to the city.Since that time, though, vandalism and graffiti became a constant concern, which led to the park's reopening in February. City officials will now monitor the park for cleanliness and graffiti."Before the city could actually open it up there were some minor maintenance things that we needed to take care of. There were some ramps that needed to be taken out and demolished. There was a lot of graffiti," Gil Contreras, principal recreations manager with the City of Chula Vista, said.Community members had a say in the park's reopening as well. A series of community meetings asked the public what they wanted out of the park, the priority being the ability to skate for free. The park will also offer skate classes, day camps, and birthday party rentals.RESOURCES: Learning how to skateboard"We definitely took everything into consideration when reopening the park. [Community members] were concerned about the graffiti and the vandalism and things like that," Contreras said. "We did reassure them ... we have park rangers who frequently visit all of our parks. We have a staff who actually comes through every day and just kind of gets an idea and looks at everything and talks to the patrons."Since February's reopening, Contreras says all the city has received are positive remarks.The park is open daily from 8 a.m. to dusk to skateboarding, BMX bikes, scooters, in-line skating, and roller skating. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Chula Vista Police identified Tuesday a man and woman who were shot by the woman’s ex-boyfriend in a deadly domestic violence dispute near a Costco. The incident happened Monday afternoon while Angelina Perez, 32 and Samuel Valdez, 31, were loading groceries in the trunk of their vehicle in the parking lot of the store on Broadway with their infant daughter in a stroller. Sean Illian, 48, approached them with a gun and opened fire, hitting Perez and Valdez several times, police said. The baby was not hurt.Witnesses in the parking lot saw Illian shoot himself in the head. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police said Perez and Illian had been in a relationship which ended badly in 2018. Perez began dating Valdez just after the breakup, investigators said. (KGTV) -- A group of parents from the Sweetwater Union High School district have started a petition hoping to push the district to allow their student-athletes to return to practice.As of Tuesday night, the petition has over 1,100 signatures. The parents want their children to follow all safety and social distancing guidelines, but they say the district has told them the kids can't practice. The petition gives examples of other school districts in San Diego County that have allowed their student athletes to return to practice. The petition even suggests that district officials are keeping sports shut down to balance Sweetwater's multi-million dollar budget deficit.Parents argue that not having sports is affecting their children's mental health and that not practicing could put them at a disadvantage once the seasons starts and when it comes time to get sports scholarships. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A transient pleaded guilty to an arson count Monday for setting a fire in Chula Vista, one of several blazes he was arrested on suspicion of sparking.Alejandro Gonzalez, 33, is slated to be sentenced Jan. 13 to a 32-month prison term.He was initially charged with four felony counts of arson of a structure or forest involving blazes on May 24, June 14, Sept. 17 and Sept. 20, but those counts were dismissed Monday morning as part of his plea to a newly filed arson of property count.The new count is not connected with a specific fire, but Deputy District Attorney Roza Egiazarian said all the blazes he was charged with setting will be considered at his sentencing hearing.RELATED: Man tied to series of fires in Chula Vista river bottom arrestedAccording to Chula Vista police, who said about a dozen blazes were sparked at various locations throughout the city since late April, Gonzalez was arrested near the scene of a Sept. 20 brush fire.Officers spotted him "walking quickly away" from the blaze in the 1700 block of Fourth Avenue, according to police, who said he had several lighters in his possession and during questioning, "admitted to intentionally setting several brush fires in the river-bottom area over the past five months. Gonzalez claimed he was setting the fires due to hearing voices."Chula Vista police said the fires were largely in the river bottom area that Gonzalez was "known to frequent" and mostly charred vegetation.
