SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Governor Gavin Newsom's announcement Friday on the fall school year left many parents unsure what to expect.Schools have a list of guidelines they must comply with to open in person classes. The most difficult guideline, potentially, is to stay off the state's watch list for 14 consecutive days.This leaves parents in limbo.Tancy Campbell has been juggling a 9-year-old, 5-year-old with special needs, and an Esty shop while her husband is deployed with the Navy. She is less nervous about her 9-year-old who understands social distancing and mask etiquette, but her 5-year-old son hasn't reached that level yet."I'm worried about him going but I'm worried about him staying as well so it's like a double-edged sword," Campbell said.She said he has autism and is regressing without social interaction, but if he were to go to school right now she's worried he could catch coronavirus. These stresses piling up over the past four months.Licensed Psychologist Dr. Michelle Carcel said she's heard from a lot of exhausted parents and has this advice, "all of us need to take a step back and realize this is an imperfect situation and mistakes will be made and that's okay."She said it's important to create a routine to set barriers with the kids. "Also putting signs in different places where there's play area time and where there's school time. So that way you're making a division with work and play," Carcel added.Post a schedule somewhere that everyone can read, so the kids know when parents are busy and when they can have their attention.She suggests dividing and conquering if possible. Enlist help from your partner, or family members to divvy up the childcare responsibilities.She also said if you aren't happy about the decisions being made, let your representatives know. "You're not helpless, you're not alone, make sure you advocate for you and your family," Carcel said.Most importantly, don't forget to take care of yourself."I would just like to tell all the mommas and the daddies to stay strong if they're at home with their kids, it's a lot," Campbell said.A lot to handle, but a labor of love. 2320

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Fluffy, fresh snow will beckon San Diegans, and road advisories, to the mountains this weekend.Thanksgiving Day's storm brought fresh powder and rain to San Diego mountains. Areas including Julian, Descanso, Pine Valley, and Mt. Laguna saw between two and 12 inches of snow Friday, depending on elevation.Saturday, chain requirements were canceled for State route 79 just north of Interstate 8 to Sr-78/Sr-79 junction in Julian, and on Sr-78 from Banner Grade to Sr-78/Sr-79 junction in Santa Ysabel. Visitors quickly arrived in Julian Saturday, where streets were clear of snow but packed with cars:Sunrise Highway, from Pine Valley to Mt. Laguna, was scheduled to reopen on the southside between Old Highway 80 in Pine Valley to Mile post 27 at 12 p.m., though chains will be required past the 5,000 elevation level. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Fire crews worked to put out large flames at a home on the 4400 block of Park Boulevard Friday night. A 10News viewer shared video showing flames engulfing the yard of the home in University Heights,  dangerously close to the pet grooming business next door.He told 10News people in the area broke the windows of the business to get to dogs inside, worried that the fire might spread to the business. Shortly before 10 p.m. crews were able to put out the flames. San Diego Gas and Electric crews were also on scene to turn off a small gas leak.   624

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Federal agents have been added to the investigation of a Kearny Mesa fire that gutted an off-roading business early Thursday morning.About 25 agents with National Response Team (NRT) of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) out of Los Angeles were requested by San Diego Fire-Rescue to assist with the probe.The NRT agents will arrive Friday and begin processing the scene at Off Road Warehouse Saturday, according to the ATF. They join other officials with ATF Los Angeles, SDFD, and the San Diego Police in the investigation. The fire comes five months after another fire ignited in November 2018. That fire, however, was reportedly ruled as an electrical fire.“ATF is committed to working alongside state and local law enforcement by bringing its resources to determine the origin and cause of this fire that resulted in a total loss for this business,” said Carlos Canino, the special agent in charge of ATF Los Angeles Field Division. “ATF will provide whatever is necessary to thoroughly investigate and provide answers.”Thursday's blaze was reported at about 1:30 a.m. at the ORW building (7915 Balboa Ave.) The fire caused an estimated .5 million in damages and the warehouse's contents were deemed a total loss. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Flames shot out a window of a Spring Valley apartment that caught fire Thursday morning.The fire broke out at the home in the 10,000 block of Austin Drive about 10 a.m.No one was injured but the family who lives there says their cat died in the fire."I heard the beep beep beep and ran up the stairs," said Jacquline Amey, "I looked in the other room it was all smoky - opened the closet and it was engulfed in flames."San Miguel, Heartland, La Mesa firefighters and the San Diego Sheriff’s Department assisted in the emergency.The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  636
