DETROIT, Mich. -- The Detroit Police Department is responding to a video that shows an officer fatally shooting a dog in its own yard.Officers say it happened Aug. 3 on the east side of the Michigan city.The video shows the dog in a yard latching onto a police K-9's snout and not letting go. The officer then drew her weapon and shot the dog, which died from its injuries."It's unfortunate that it came to this. We do not like to see any animal hurt, especially these K-9 officers. They are truly dog lovers and champions for K-9s. But at this point, her dog was being severely injured and had no choice," Commander Darin Szilagy said.Detroit police did internally investigate and cleared the officer of any wrongdoing.That K-9 officer continues to be evaluated and treated for injuries. DETROIT, Mich. -- A 70-year-old woman is suing the Detroit Police Department for millions of dollars, accusing its officers of "violent abuse.""I never in my life had handcuffs on," said the woman, Lisa Wright. But all that changed on Nov. 20, 2019, when Wright said she and her grandson heard a commotion outside her home on Wyoming near Chippewa on Detroit's west side.Wright's grandson opened the door and they were allegedly assaulted by police officers.Thursday, at a press conference with her attorneys, Wright told reporters how she was forced to the ground and handcuffed."We didn't do anything," Wright said they tried to tell police."After they roughed her up and abused her for 30 minutes or so, they just released her," said Wright's attorney, Michael Fortner. "Not even an apology."Wright, whose husband ended up rushing her to a nearby hospital where she remained for seven days, is now suing the City of Detroit and Detroit police for million for alleged physical injuries, post-traumatic stress, humiliation, and mental anguish.It all began on Nov. 20, 2019, when Detroit police officers responded to a 911 call for help at a house three doors away from Wright's home.During that run, two police officers were shot, including officer Rasheen McClain who died from his injuries.Immediately after the shooting, as police were searching the area for the suspect, Wright and her attorneys claim officers dragged her and her grandson out of their home and caused them injuries.In the lawsuit, officers "subjected plaintiff to unlawful searches of her person and property, wrongful arrest/detention, unnecessary and violent abuse, false arrest, and other unconstitutional conduct."Click on the video to hear from Wright and her attorneys.In December, WXYZ began looking into Wright's allegations of police misconduct, and police officials said they were investigating the claims. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) — Del Mar's 2020 racing season kicked off Friday in a way never seen before - without fans. The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club is hosting the season without people in the stands to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. The decision's impact will go beyond the Thoroughbred Club, which stands to lose million this year in ticket sales and concessions. "It's more than just a money making venture for us, because probably this year, we won't make any money," club CEO Joe Harper said. The club reports that it makes a 0 million economic impact to the region in a typical year. That includes 5,150 jobs and a boost to the area hotel occupancy rate from 70 percent to 87 percent. Additionally, area business, including restaurants in Del Mar and neighboring Solana Beach, are losing out on fans pre and post race. Last year, the track averaged 11,264 fans per day. "You kind of don't have a choice, you kind of just got to be proactive and be creative and make it work," said Charles Koll, owner of Viewpoint Brewing Company, across from the fairgrounds. Koll said he would rely on community support, and reach out to jockeys at the fairgrounds, to increase his customer base during this time. Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden will remain in his home state of Delaware on Wednesday while President Donald Trump continues full speed ahead with his busy rally schedule.Trump will court voters in two western swing states on Wednesday — Nevada and Arizona. The President will appear at a rally in Bullhead City, Arizona — a city located at the border of Nevada's southern tip — at 3 p.m. ET. He'll later head to the Phoenix area and hold a rally in Goodyear at 5:45 p.m. ET.Trump carried Arizona by a 48% to 44% margin in 2016, but recent polls show voters are leaning toward Biden this year.Nevada went for former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton in the last presidential election and broke for President Barack Obama in 2012. Biden is also favored to take the state in 2020.Biden remained in his home state of Delaware on Wednesday and received a briefing from public health experts regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. During remarks following the briefing, Biden urged all Americans to continue wearing masks, calling it "patriotic" and "not political." Biden also criticized the Trump administration's handling of the pandemic, hitting the President on everything from his health care plan to recent comments from administration officials."We've lost more than 220,000 lives of this virus already. But this administration has just given up," Biden said. "Over the weekend, the White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows, went on television and admitted that they've waived the white flag and declared surrender. Democrats now lead Republicans by 52% to 41% in a nationwide generic Congressional ballot according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS and released Tuesday. The blue lead has increased slightly from eight percentage points in June of this year to an 11 percentage point difference in the most recent poll.Despite Democrats' advantage on that measure, a plurality (48%) in the same poll believe Republicans will maintain control of Congress after the election, compared with 40% who believe Democrats will gain control.Among those who favor the Democratic candidate in their district, 64% say they think Democrats will ultimately win control of Congress, while among those backing Republican candidates, 83% think the GOP will maintain control.Compared to previous elections, 68% of registered voters say they're more enthusiastic to vote in this election than in the past. Registered Democrats and Republicans report being more excited to vote at similar levels, with 70% and 68% saying so, respectively.However, Democrats have taken a much higher leap in enthusiasm vs. 2016 than Republicans. When CNN last asked the question, in September 2016, only 38% of Democrats said they were "more enthusiastic," while 48% of Republicans said the same.
