(KGTV) - People who believe they were a part of San Diego’s water meter reading debacle got a chance to get some answers from City of San Diego officials Thursday night.Hundreds crowded into the Mira Mesa Senior Center for City Council-member Chris Cate’s Q&A forum on the water meter misreadings and subsequent over-billings. “It’s about trying to earn the trust back from the people,” said Cate on the meeting along with the oncoming audit of more than 250,000 water meters in San Diego.“I think people need to feel comfortable knowing that their meters actually can get read and read correctly,” added CateLast week, the City of San Diego admitted 343 customers in a pool of a little more than 2,000 had their water meters incorrectly read in the communities of Rancho Bernardo, Ranch Penasquitos, Carmel Valley and Mira Mesa.Water utility officials said it’s their plan to send out the refund checks in the next three to thirty days. 979

Despite the way Hollywood depicts the destruction, the U.S. Geological Survey says the ground can’t open up during a large earthquake. In the spirit of debunking this myth, we’ve decided to take a look at some other popular earthquake myths. Check them out below: Can the ground open up during an earthquake? According to the USGS, an earthquake occurs when two blocks of the earth’s crust slide past one another after being stuck together in one place for a long time, because of friction on the fault, while the rest of the crust rest of the crust away from the edges has been slowly moving. “If a fault could open up, no earthquake would occur in the first place because there would be no friction locking the two blocks together,” the agency says. Consistent and reliable behavior and the mechanism explaining how it could work still eludes scientists. Currently, scientists around the world are pursuing the mystery, according to the USGS. 2139

A 19-year-old man was detained in Germany on Tuesday after police found him carrying a 2-foot long python in his pants.According to the Associated Press, the unidentified man was detained by police in Darmstadt after having a loud drunken argument with another man. When police searched the teenager, they found "a significant bulge" in his pants.The man then told police he had a snake in his pants and pulled it out to show officers. According to the BBC, police believe the baby king python may belong to one of the man's relatives.The teen was taken into a jail cell to sleep if off.
