ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) - An Alpine woman who tested positive for COVID-19 says her quarantine turned into a nightmare as a postal carrier delivered a package. This past weekend, Tamica got a COVID test after three co-workers tested positive. She also tested positive and remains asymptomatic."Since I got that Sunday, I've been quarantining at home," said Tamica. On Tuesday, past 1 p.m., as the mail truck pulled up to her apartment off Tavern Road, her two 80-lb. dogs ran to the front door and started barking. She says the door was open but the screen door was shut, as the postal carrier stood outside, at the door, with something in his hand."They were instantly pawing at their face and backed up, and acting weird ... jumping up and down and making a whining noise," said Tamica.Tamica believes the postal carrier had used his pepper spray. At that point, Tamica says the dogs jumped on the door and pushed it open. They ran out, and she ran after them. Tamica says the letter carrier sprayed toward one dog as it ran off, before turning to her other dog."I just jumped in front of my dog. He's wasn't doing anything. He wasn't barking. He was just sitting there .... He's a golden retriever and very friendly ... The postal carrier is spraying us, yelling and just spraying wildly," Tamica said.Tamica says that went on for about a minute, and it seemed liked forever."I was mad, scared, ready to cry … yelling at him to stop, stop, stop!" said Tamica. She says he finally did. Her dogs' eyes were left shut and stinging for hours. Her eyes were also ripe with pain. Tamica filed a complaint with the Postal Service."It's outrageous. This was not warranted at all," said Tamica.A different version of events has emerged from the postal carrier's statements.According to a USPS spokesperson, he claims he never sprayed through the screen door, didn't intend to pepper-spray Tamica, and only started spraying when both dogs were outside, lunging at him, to allow him to "leave the area."The spokesperson adds that based on the statements collected, they are standing by their postal carrier's version of events. They did apologize for Tamica getting pepper-sprayed in the incident. They also issued the following statement:"The Postal Service places the safety of its employees as a top priority. Letter carriers fearing for their safety due to a loose or unrestrained pet may stop delivery and ask homeowners to pick up their mail at the Post Office until the pet is restrained. In cases where a carrier sees a dog roaming and can’t discern where it resides, delivery could be interrupted to the entire neighborhood. In 2019, San Diego ranked #10 in the country for dog attacks on letter carriers. Dogs can be protective of their territory and may interpret the actions of letter carriers as a threat. Please take precautions when accepting mail in the presence of your pet. When a carrier comes to your home, keep your dog inside, away from the door in another room. Any dog can bite. Even the friendliest dog may bite when startled or surprised. If the dog is physically or mentally unhealthy, is in pain, feels threatened, or is protecting its food or a favorite toy, it can bite. The letter carriers at your local Post Office deliver every day. And if you are a dog owner, we need you to deliver for us, too. Keep your dog on a leash or away from the door, so that your letter carrier can safely deliver to your mailbox or porch, today and every day." 3464

ABERDEEN — Amber Pleasant wears a smile on her face while she and her husband Jerome Pleasant read to their daughters Amaya, 3, and Amara, 2. Nine-month-old August sleeps peacefully in her lap.Behind that smile hides a lot of worries and concerns, not only about Amber’s future, but the future of her family.“I have six pairs of eyes watching me. If I start to cry or break down, they’ll start to worry,” she said.Amber has plenty to worry about. A day after her interview with WMAR, she was scheduled to have a bilateral mastectomy. She was diagnosed with breast cancer six months ago at the age of 37, a disease she says runs in her family.“It was a big shock that it would happen to someone this young,” she said. “I mean, you always see it, but you don’t think it will happen to you this young.”Amber says she feels the pressure to be strong, not just for her three youngest children, but also her three older daughters from a previous marriage. She says they don’t often talk about the odds.“We just focus on the positive and the good things and we don’t really think about the negative,” she said. This is not the Pleasant family’s first run-in with cancer. In 2005, Jerome was diagnosed with cancer in his jaw. Doctors had to remove part of his cheek and jaw bone and his teeth. Radiation damaged his right eye and he must now wear an eye patch. His cancer diagnosis came not long after his 18-month-old daughter Talia, from his previous marriage, was also diagnosed with cancer.“Father and daughter were battling cancer at the same time, receiving treatments at the same time and receiving surgeries at one time,” Amber said.Talia died a few years later at the age of 4. A couple of years later, Jerome was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer. He was treated only to have it return a couple of years later. In all, Jerome has had more than 20 surgeries since 2005, and the chemo and radiation have caused other disabilities like epilepsy. So when Amber found out she had breast cancer, she says she couldn't believe cancer was hitting their family yet again. All she could think about was her children.“I can’t imagine all six of my children not having their mother and it scares me to think that that could happen,” she said. “So I fight every single day, through every single chemo and through every single procedure.”The medical bills quickly began to pile up. Amber says they log a lot of miles between Baltimore and Bel Air, Maryland, where Jerome and she are treated, respectively. She says the family car barely fits the entire family and has become an unreliable mode of transportation.Amber says they realized pretty quickly that they needed to ask for help.“We don’t want anyone to think that we can’t take care of our children and so that’s why we’ve never asked for help before," she said. "We don’t want anyone to think that we can’t do this and that we can’t provide for them and we can’t take care of them.”She says the Harford County community has stepped up tremendously, especially former high school classmates and teachers. Both she and Jerome say it has been a huge source of support and strength for them, and so has their faith.“Faith is a driving force in my life,” Jerome said. “It motivates me to get up every day.”“We’ve run out of resources so we’re very grateful to the Harford County community that has come forward to help our family because without them, I don’t know what we would be doing right now,” Amber said.Amber’s bilateral mastectomy went well and she’s now recovering. She still has to go through more rounds of chemo and radiation. The Pleasants have started a GoFundMe page to help cover their medical costs.Weichert Realtors, Diana Realty in Bel Air is also adopting the Pleasant family for Christmas. They are collecting donations for the six children, who are 17 years old, 15 years old, 10 years old, 3 years old, 2 years old and 9 months old. Contact Claudia Sconion at 410-893-1200 or csconion@aol.com about making a donation. 4024

Adam Levine is not giving up a great deal about reports that Maroon 5 will be performing at the next Super Bowl halftime show."I'm still formulating a lot of things," he told Variety in a recent interview.Reaction had been mixed to early reports the group would headline the halftime show. The NFL has not officially confirmed the entertainment lineup for the next Super Bowl."It's a Super Bowl tradition to speculate about the performers for the Pepsi Halftime Show," a league rep said in a statement earlier this fall. "We are continuing to work with (longtime sponsor) Pepsi on our plans but do not have any announcements to make on what will be another epic show."Levine was more open with the publication about getting superstar rapper Cardi B to record a verse on the hit Maroon 5 single, "Girls Like You.""I told Cardi, 'I want you to put something down that shows your fierceness as a woman and say it however you want,'" Levine said. "I knew she was going to murder this verse and bring the song to a whole new place. She was vital. I begged her to do it." 1077

Actresses Kristen Bell and Jenny Slate have both announced that they will no longer voice mixed-race characters on their respective animated shows, acknowledging that the roles would be better suited for actresses of color.Bell voiced Molly Tillerman, a mixed-race character in 13 episodes of the Apple Plus animated series "Central Park," which was released earlier this year. In a statement Wednesday, the show acknowledged that the character represented an "opportunity to get representation right."The show said it would find a Black or mixed-race actress to voice the character moving forward. Bell will remain on the show's creative team in a "new role.""We profoundly regret that we might have contributed to anyone's feeling of exclusion or erasure," the show's statement read."I am happy to relinquish this role to someone who can give a much more accurate portrayal and I will commit to learning, growing and doing my part for equality and inclusion," Bell said in a statement of her own. 1006

Accidents happen. Even at the Olympics. One of the most inspiring American Olympic stories in recent memory, the rags-to-riches journey of Team USA curling and the first-ever Olympic gold medal in curling, ended in Pyeongchang, South Korea with a silly sidelight.Team USA got their gold medals and proudly sang the National Anthem. Then they went off the podium and, as they looked at the medals they worked a lifetime for, they discovered...um...uh...The US men's curling team just realized the gold medals they were awarded moments ago say "women's curling gold medal" on them. Their coaches are working on it ... #pyeongchang2018 pic.twitter.com/PERIMuXN98— Alyssa Roenigk (@alyroe) February 24, 2018 715
