SAN DIEGO (KGTV) One day after a woman was hit and killed crossing El Cajon Boulevard, a local business group is demanding change. The 63-year-old woman was hit by an SUV while crossing El Cajon Boulevard near 46th Street in the Talmadge area Monday around 5 p.m. "We're devastated. Unfortunately, I actually get news like this almost every week," said Beryl Forman, Marketing and Mobility Coordinator of the El Cajon Boulevard Business Improvement Association.The woman who was killed was not in a crosswalk. Forman said a lack of crosswalks is just one of the problems. RELATED: Woman struck, killed by SUV while crossing Talmadge-area street"We have high speeds of traffic, there aren't enough crosswalks, and you're in the middle of dense urban neighborhoods with local businesses that people peruse on a regular basis." The association purchased a speed indicator sign that is now posted on El Cajon Boulevard near 50th Street. The group was planning to present the sign to the Mid-City Police Department during an event Tuesday evening, but is using the time to hold a vigil in memory of the woman who died.The office of San Diego City Council President Georgette Gomez issued the following statement regarding the group's concerns. "Investments in pedestrian safety have been a priority for me in every budget discussion since I first took office. I have requested resources for the Safe Routes to Schools program, the City's Vision Zero project, and the El Cajon Boulevard Complete Boulevard Plan. These plans include improvements that increase pedestrian safety such as crosswalks, bulb-outs, new sidewalks, and street lighting. The City is investing in these projects and has also been securing grant funds from state and federal sources.Earlier this year, the Mayor announced the completion of safety improvements at 15 of San Diego's most accident-prone intersections and secured funding for hundreds more. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are investigating after a body was found in Balboa Park Wednesday afternoon. According to officers, the body was found on the 2100 block of Balboa Drive near Juniper Road and the San Diego Chess Club. The cause of death is unclear at this time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One day after San Diego County allowed dining in restaurants to resume with modifications, Pacific Beach's El Prez was ordered to close for violating county public health orders.Now, the restaurant and bar says it's hoping to reopen sometime next week after passing an health department inspection.Last week, El Prez was the scene of customers ignoring physical distancing and facial covering rules. This facility will remain closed until further notice," Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said at the time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More people have tested positive at the San Diego Convention Center, which has been serving as a shelter for San Diego's homeless since April.Regular testing has been conducted at the Convention Center since the shelter opened, but there was a rise in positive cases starting with tests administered on Dec. 3. Since then, there have been 120 positive cases detected. According to city officials, 115 are clients and five are staff members.Prior to Dec. 3, the city says there had been 27 positive cases since April.Dr. Eric McDonald, medical director of the County Health and Human Services Agency's Epidemiology and Immunization Branch, released the following statement: 699

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- New numbers show San Diego housing costs are taking up more than a third of people’s income. 57 percent of renters spend more than a third on housing and so do 40 percent of homeowners. That's the result of the annual Equinox Project released Thursday by the Center for Sustainable Energy in San Diego.Mikaella Bolling, the project’s manager says it boils down to supply and demand.“A lot of people say well we don't want development in my neighborhood or we don't want infill development in our neighborhood, but this is actually the solution that's going to allow us to have more affordable units,” she said.She points to the need for more partnerships to bridge the gaps and educate the public.   “We need to have a better conversation between our residents, between our policymakers, and between our developers,” she said.The cost of a median single-family home in the county jumped 6.5 percent from 2016 to 2017. It’s now upwards of 5,000.“We're seeing that increase every year.  Great for homeowners...but not great for buyers,” Bolling added.
