Conagra Brands Inc. is recalling 2,871 pounds of chicken and rice products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens. The recalled 7.5-oz microwavable bowls of Chef Boyardee labeled as rice with chicken and vegetables actually contains beef ravioli products, according to the recall. The product was packaged on Jan. 16, 2019. The products have the package code 210090151050045L and a "Best By" date of "Jul082020" on the bottom of the bowl. CHICAGO, Ill. – For the first time, researchers say there’s a real connection between people not getting enough sleep and them craving calorie-packed junk food. For graduate student Daria Porter, sleep is often in short supply.“To function, I drink coffee and then during the day, I'll drink tea,” said Porter. But not getting enough rest can also lead her to making unhealthy choices.“Sometimes we'll run down here and grab a sweet snack if we're really struggling all of us,” Porter said. We all crave junk food from time to time, but now scientists say they might know more about how your nose plays an important role in why you reach for that doughnut when you’re tired. “So, the sense of smell helps us to decide what to eat and what not to eat,” said Thorsten Kahnt, an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine.Kahnt just completed research looking what happens in the brain when study participants got a normal night’s sleep, versus just four hours, and how that affected their food choices.“So, when people are sleep deprived, they changed the type of food that they ate,” said Kahnt. The research indicated that when tired, the brain goes into hyperdrive – causing an enhanced response to high fat, calorie dense foods.“So, they ate food like donuts or chocolate chips that are richer in calories,” said Kahnt. In addition, scientists scanned people’s neurological responses to food and non-food odors when they were sleep deprived versus being well-rested.“The part of the brain that responds or processes food or odors in general,” said Kahnt. “That has a stronger response to food and non-food odors when you're sleep deprived.”The research provides new insights into the biological connection between sleep habits and weight gain. And how understanding that connection can help thwart making bad choices.Researchers say the best bet is to put that snack down and instead hit the sack. Berger’s team is taking part in the state’s pilot program in which his brewery captures its own carbon dioxide and sells it to marijuana growers.“It’s a really cool opportunity for us to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions,” he said. “Talking about two of Colorado’s, really the epitome of our state’s small business environment, is an easy one to talk about.”And it’s a relatively easy process. This brewery captures the Co2 emitted during the fermentation process, stores it in a machine, then ships it off to pot growers where it’s used to help with their harvests.“In front of me is Earthly Labs Co2 capture system,” said Amy George, Earthly Labs CEO. “It has the potential to capture the equivalent of 15,000 trees a year for our craft brewers.”George says this technology was once only available to really large brewers.Her team recently designed a more affordable carbon capturing process for smaller craft brewers, with the goal of reducing a billion metric tons of waste while basically turning IPA into THC.“Climate change is in front of us,” George said. “It’s important to for us to think of all the ways we can invest in technology or change our behavior to meet the needs of future generations.”And it meets the needs of The Clinic, a cannabis company based in Denver.Chris Baca, the operations manager at The Clinic, says this technology will help reduce his company’s carbon footprint – while increasing its yield of the sticky icky.“It’s always good to be ahead of the curve and with something that every grow room uses so much of it; think it’s a great opportunity,” he said.
